1) Do you all eat together for dinner? (what about breakfast?) As often as possible--currently about 3 nights a week...usually more during the school year. Never together for breakfast!

14) What time is dinner? How long does dinner last? Usually at 6-6:30. Depending on what's going on, it can last from 15 minutes to an hour.
15) At the end of dinner, do people leave the table once done or does everyone wait until everyone is done? Wait until everyone is finished.
16) Do the kids need to be excused before leaving? It's more by mutual and unspoken agreement at this point.
17) Who clears the table? Whoever's available, or we each do some.
1 Who cleans the kitchen? Me!!
19) What time is it when dinner is done and the kitchen is completely clean? To varied to answer--sometimes I don't finish the dishes until the next day.

Just curious about everyone's schedule.
1) Do you all eat together for dinner? (what about breakfast?)
Very seldom... if ever anymore. Never breakfast. :(
2) If you don't eat all together, what ages are your kids? 2-B) Did you eat together when the kids were younger OR Do you plan to eat together once your child/ren get older?
The ones living at home are 17 and 23... and yes, when all of the kids were little and living at home we ALWAYS ate together. I found that the older they got... the busier they were and now it's almost impossible for all of us to all get together on the same night to eat together. Nice thought but... it just doesn't happen. LOL
3) Do you say a blessing at your dinner table, if so, who says it? Do you put your hands together or hold hands w/ family?
No... not anymore. When the kids were little they always took turns saying the blessing.
4) What is the common dinner conversation like?
We each talk about our day... kids about school and or work, dh about his work... me about mine.
5) Do you allow the TV to be on?
Yes... unfortuntely now we do. 8o When the kids were little though we always made it a point to make it just "family" time.
6) Will you answer the phone during dinner?
Yes... but whoever it's for has to tell the caller that they are eating and will call them back when they are done.
7) Are your meals what you would call "home cooked" or mostly frozen/boxed/pre-made dinners?
Depends upon my day... LOL I've always got something frozen/quick that I can put on just in case I'm too pooped/tired... exhausted to want to do any kind of cooking. Some weeks I'll cook every night... while other's I might pop something quick in the oven/microwave two or three times a week. Sometimes I'll go get take out chow-mein or call out for pizza. I've been way too lazy lately and doing way too many quick meals and way too many trips to pick-up chow-main and ordering pizza. Sometimes when it's just dh and myself... it hardly seems worth going to all of the trouble cooking a big meal for.
8) Do you eat at the dinner table or just around the house where ever looks good?
Always up at the table.
9) Who sets the table?
I usually do.
10) Do you use the "good stuff" for your regular family meals?
IF everyone is home sitting up to the table eating a meal together we will...
12) Do you use paper napkins, paper towels, or cloth napkins each night?
Lately we've been using a lot of paper plates/napkins... I don't mind doing dishes... but if I can save a little bit of clean up time by using paper... I will. Like dh... I too am anxious to sit my butt down and be lazy after a hard day's work. LOL
13) Do you use candles?
LOL... I can't even remember the last time we ate by candle...
14) What time is dinner? How long does dinner last?
Lately... because of road construction dh hasn't been getting home until just about 5:00... so we don't usually sit down until almost 5:l5/30. IF dinner is done/cooked and he still isn't home... we'll usually start eating without him, otherwise everything gets cold/icky.
15) At the end of dinner, do people leave the table once done or does everyone wait until everyone is done?
When the kids were little we all always just sat up at the table and talked until the last person was done. Dh is a very SLOW eater though... and it got to the point where they were no longer willing to wait that long :) and would end up leaving before he was finished.
16) Do the kids need to be excused before leaving?
Not anymore... like I said, we seldom even eat together so... :)
17) Who clears the table?
We each take our own plates/silverware and glassess off from the table. I usually end up taking any leftover food or things like ketchup, salad dressings... etc. off from the table and putting them away. Sometimes if dh is still eating... he'll usually take what's left on the table and put it away himself.
18) Who cleans the kitchen?
I usually do but every once in a while dh will pitch in and help... or totally do it. He does a darn good job too. LOL
19) What time is it when dinner is done and the kitchen is completely clean?
Probably no later than 6:00... depending upon what time dd #2 gets home from work or school and eats.
20) What do you do after dinner?
Kids are either at school/work... or at boyfriends houses, so dh and I will usually go into the livingroom and watch tv together for about an hour or so.

1) Do you all eat together for dinner? (what about breakfast?)
Dks and I eat together every night for dinner....occasionally with dh, however he gets home much later than we prefer to eat. We all sit down to breakfast together in the mornings...even if dh or I aren't eating.
2-A) If you don't eat all together, what ages are your kids?
Dks are 6 and 8
2-B) Did you eat together when the kids were younger OR Do you plan to eat together once your child/ren get older?
We pretty much haven't changed....this works for us, and our kids are used to this routine.
3) Do you say a blessing at your dinner table, if so, who says it? Do you put your hands together or hold hands w/ family?
Hmmm....no I guess we don't regularly do this. I teach at a parochial school, and dks attend the same school so we pray VERY much during the day. On special occasions we definately do.
4) What is the common dinner conversation like?
We talk about things that happened during the day...and generally just "chat", I guess.
5) Do you allow the TV to be on?
Sometimes. But it's not a regular type thing.
6) Will you answer the phone during dinner?
We have caller i.d. so I can screen my calls and answer them only if it's dh calling, etc.
7) Are your meals what you would call "home cooked" or mostly frozen/boxed/pre-made dinners?
Kind of a combination. I usually have a freshly made salad, fruits, bread, etc with each meal....but I'm more of a convenience type cook. I like very simple to throw together meals.
8 )Do you eat at the dinner table or just around the house where ever looks good?
Always at the dinner table.
9) Who sets the table?
Me...although dks will help when asked. (I tend to serve their meals to them on their plates...rather than do the "family style" thing. Again...they don't complain...can always ask for more, etc. So we haven't changed this.)
10) Do you use the "good stuff" for your regular family meals?
No..I rarely use my good china....what a shame!!!! We have a pretty set of Corelle dishes that we use for everyday.
12) Do you use paper napkins, paper towels, or cloth napkins each night?
We use paper napkins.....sometimes even paper plates!
13) Do you use candles?
Rarely....special occasions.
14) What time is dinner? How long does dinner last?
During the school year it's early...5:00 p.m. (my dks eat a very early lunch at school) and during the summer it's usually more like 5:45. Dinner lasts about 20-30 minutes. (If you count the "wash up before dinner" part!)
15) At the end of dinner, do people leave the table once done or does everyone wait until everyone is done?
At this time of our lives...everyone seems to pretty much finish at about the same time.
16) Do the kids need to be excused before leaving?
Yes...they say "May I be excused?" and wait for an answer.
17) Who clears the table?
Everyone clears their own place. Oldest ds is tall enough now to rinse his plate and put it into the dishwasher. I still rinse ds2's...but he has to move it from the table to the counter. Each dk has to take a wet washrag and wipe their table "spot", also.
18 ) Who cleans the kitchen?
Mostly me.
19) What time is it when dinner is done and the kitchen is completely clean?
6:30-6:45ish
20) What do you do after dinner?
The boys usually play, either outside or with toys in the house. In the winter they might watch a t.v. show. Homework is always done right after school...they have a short time to do some reading before bedtime. Our bedtime is early...because they get up at 6:00 a.m. for school (we leave the house at 7:00 a.m.).

If DH is home we all eat together otherwise it's just the kids (6 &10) and I. DH and I drink breakfast (DH coffee, diet coke for me) so only the kids eat together if they get up at close to the same time. Meals are a mix of home cooked and prepackaged. If its just the kids and I it's more likely to be boxed/canned/packaged. When DH is home I make larger meals with more variety and more from scratch. About half the time I bring everything to the table and DH and I serve the kids there. DS takes his own seconds. DD gets served seconds upon request. Otherwise we do the same thing but from the kitchen counter buffet style. We don't have *good stuff* so that isn't an issue. Paper towels or napkins. We only use candles for holidays. Until recently we had a table set up in two rooms. We all ate at the one that is within site of the TV. And we have the TV on. Conversations are about what we did for the day, upcoming events, gossipy type things or the TV show. Usually we have on a science show like Bill Nye or a nature show like Shark week. We do sometimes have phone conversations during meal time. Mainly because DH's family is so difficult to get ahold of any my family lives a couple of time zones away. Anybody for the kids gets called back after meal time. When we eat varies with who will be home and when. We eat to have the most people at home. If DH has to go to bed at 8:30 we eat earlier. If DS has a sporting commitment we eat later and less (the kids eat before and after practice and games, not full meals). I do most of the cooking but DH has started doing more since he got this job. I suspect that when I'm back at work for real he will do even more. I'm trying to get the kids to help more with prep and clean-up. They help get the extras out (condiments, sides, etc) and pack everything away. I do the dishes. Sometimes the next day. The kids don't need to be excused. We just get up clean up your own plate (except DH) and since the rest of the night is in the same room, nobodies really leaving. After eating we usually just laze around. I've mentioned that we have a large family room with everything in it so that's were we go (the dining area is connect with a huge archway). DH and the kids may play a Nintendo game together with me on the computer. Or we'll watch a show/movie together. Sometimes I go on the computer or read, DH watches TV and the kids play with toys on the floor.

[B]Just curious about everyone's schedule.
1) Do you all eat together for dinner? (what about breakfast?) Dinner yes, mostly. DD17 sometimes away now. Breakfast - NOOO! Do not make me be conversant before my coffee!!!
3) Do you say a blessing at your dinner table, if so, who says it? Do you put your hands together or hold hands w/ family? We have been holding hands and saying it together for about 18 years now. I usually lead the blessing which has become very difficult as I no longer have faith in God.
4) What is the common dinner conversation like? We often end up discussing stuff on the news. See next question.
5) Do you allow the TV to be on? My husband INSISTS that the TV be on, since we usually eat at 6 and he wants to watch the news. I don't like it but after a zillion years of being married to him, I've given up the fight.
6) Will you answer the phone during dinner? I HATE that, but my kids always run for the phone.
7) Are your meals what you would call "home cooked" or mostly frozen/boxed/pre-made dinners? Mostly home cooked.
8) Do you eat at the dinner table or just around the house where ever looks good? At the table.
9) Who sets the table? Me, while I'm cooking.
10) Do you use the "good stuff" for your regular family meals? WHAT good stuff??
12) Do you use paper napkins, paper towels, or cloth napkins each night? Oh please! Paper napkins!!
13) Do you use candles? Never. Candles make me nervous.
14) What time is dinner? How long does dinner last? 6-6:30.
15) At the end of dinner, do people leave the table once done or does everyone wait until everyone is done? As soon as they're done.
16) Do the kids need to be excused before leaving? No.
17) Who clears the table? Whoever's night it is for dishes, see next question.
18) Who cleans the kitchen? The three kids each do 2 nights a week (individually) and I do one. Hubby (bless him) often spontaneously helps and almost always cooks and washes up Sunday morning breakfast.
19) What time is it when dinner is done and the kitchen is completely clean? 7.
20) What do you do after dinner? Watch the national news.
Wow, you're making me think!
