do you make sure you shut the light off?

I do and I try to get dks to be conscious about doing it, too - unless they are just going to get something and going right back in. i.e. I cannot stand it when the bathroom light is left on. :crazyroll

I always turn the light off as I'm walking out of a room... whether I'm going right back in or not. 8o LOL It's a habit I picked up as a child. I'd get into SOOOOOOO much trouble when/if I left a light on... 8o so I learned. LOL My own kids are awful!!! When/if I walk past a vacant room and the light has been left on... I'll snap it off. Sometimes I'll hear the kids complain about how "someone" turned their light off... but I don't care. I think it's a good habit to get into.

Our house has tons of windows....so we really don't turn on lights until much later in the day...(not much on/off to worry about). Hmmm.....I guess I do turn them off by habit.

I try to for the most part...if the room has a light switch I usually do but if they are table lamps on the other side of the room I don't always....because I will most likely hurt myself walking across the room....LOL.

I try to remember to turn them off, and most of the time I do. :D

Yes, like Diane, when I grew up we got into big trouble for leaving lights on. The kids are very good about turning off lights. During the energy crunch last year, I went into conservation mode in a big way. Every light that I could change was replaced with the energy efficient bulbs. I turned down the water heater. No AC so that wasn't a problem. I began washing clothes on more energy efficient modes. I hung up clothes to dry. I put the VCRs and TV's on power strips and turned them off at the strip (things with remotes still have a very small power drain otherwise). The goal was to cut your energy usage by 10 percent over the previous years usage. We cut by over 50%. That was last year though! Now everythings plugged back in, the bulbs are back (for showing the house) and I'm machine drying the clothes again!

I try very hard to always turn out the light behind me and to get the kids to do so also. I am very bad though at having my kitchen lights on when we are in the living room because I like the back lighting, but I know it would be more energy efficient to have a couple of lamps on instead of my big kitchen light.

I too have lots of natural light...but I shut off the lights when I leave a room...unfortunetly the kids rooms only have lamps so in the evenings we leave them on until bed..bad I know...but they can't always reach them....

Depends on the room and why I leave. Bathroom lights I always turn off. If I am in a room and leave to get something and will be right back I leave the light on. Other than that I always turn them off. My dks are really bad about leaving lights on.

Always habit to turn off lights and fans when leaving a room. Now I have accent lighting that I leave on till I go to bed.

I always turn the lights off. Dh has a terrible habit, and leaves them all on :tearhair:
