Why can't people pronounce my state correctly? LOL! We have some local t.v. ads in which they obviously hire someone who isn't from this state to do the voice-over. Now I get to see ads for the new series called "Push, Nevada" (pronounced incorrectly!). Grrrr...

Just a pet peeve I needed to vent about. Whew...I feel so much better now! ;)

I've heard that Oregon and Missouri are two other states that are generally pronounced incorrectly. Anyone else's state/city commonly mispronounced?

Reminds me of a little story I love.....
A couple was driving through Alabama and arguing about the pronunciation of the city they were approaching. The woman says, "It's Mo-BEEL", and the man insists, "It's MO-beel". They decide to ask a resident, figuring that natives will know. So they drive up to a restaurant and the woman approaches the cash register. She says, "Could you please say the name of this place really slowly and distinctly so my husband can hear you?" The cashier gets a questioning look on her face, leans toward the man, and says loudly........

Bur-ger King!"

Funny Cathy. I'd heard that one, but with the place being Tastee Freeze. Dh hates when his home state of Illinois is mispronounced.

Amy, are you saying that they mispronounce Chattanooga in the song "Chattanooga Choo Choo"??? LOL! (How is it supposed to be pronounced?)

Ann, you were right all along! LOL! I've even had people try to correct ME when I say Nev-add-a! Sheesh! ;)

What a tongue-twister, Fern! LOL! (Can't even say that once slowly! ;))

LOL! Karla, I knew a guy from Missouri and he pronounced it with a short "a" sound at the end and said it bugged him when people said "Miz-or-ee". And the guy on MB's Leap Pad pronounces it "Misery"! LOL! It's not REALLY Misery, is it?

I think most people can pronounce Nebraska right but we have 3 cities/towns that are mispronounced.

Kearney--pronounced (Car-knee) is often pronounced (ker-knee)

Beatrice-pronounced (Be-a (as in apple) triss) is pronounced like the name Be-u (as in under) triss

Cairo- is pronounced (Care-O) not like Cairo, Egypt.

I'm sure there are more but those are the most common.
