well, I am not sure...but while I was at Wal Mart this morning....I was pulling into my parking spot and a little woman crossed my path in the rear view mirror....I choked on my breath because she looked just like my mother....it was so wierd....by the time I put the car into park and stopped the engine...the woman was in her car...and then didn't really seem to look as much like her....I will tell you I was sad for a few moments.....I mean I know it couldn't be her...but for an instant....:* the rest of the day I have felt really good, like somehow she is with me today...silly I know....

So do you think everyone has a "twin" or body double?

I think so Renee....although I feel sorry for mine!

I have often seen people that looks like people I know....I should post a picture of my Aunty Kathy....her and Diane P look so much alike that they could be sisters! 8o

Glad it was a good experience for you!

Most definitely. I know dh has one right here in town. He was always telling me that the guy he fishes alot of tournaments with looks just like him. I never believed it, till I met him and nearly fell over. He looks just like dh. His brothers don't look that much like him.

Renee, I've had that same sensation where I think I see my mother. It's a really mixed set of feelings, because I know it's not her and couldn't be, but I still feel disappointed. (Meantime, these women are wondering why I'm staring and following them...:o )

But I do think there are people who look enough like us to be twins. Weird, huh?

Definately!!! I always see twins of some people ....my sister has a "double" right here in town....I've seen her more then once.

The one that stopped me in my tracks was once I was at an event at work and one of the teachers I worked with wanted to introduce me to her bf...I turned around and I swear it was my best friend who died 12 years ago....I literally almost passed out....They actually asked me if I was ok...that's how shocked I was....weird huh?

My sister has a double that lives here by me. I've only seen her at the grocery store... and the first time I saw her I stopped, stared and almosst asked her what in the heck she was doiing here... because she lives over 250 miles away and I knew she wasn't here visiting. It's an odd feeling to look at someone you think you know... (especially a sister) and have them look back at you like you're a stranger. Really weird. Since my dad's passing I've seen a lot of men from behind who look like they could be my dad... until they turn around. About 3 or 4 months ago I saw some guy who looked so much like my dad... it just really freaked me out... and I actually felt faint. I had to look away... and I ended up in tears. Even my dh couldn't believe the resemblance. 8o

When I was in high school there was a girl a few years younger than I was who looked a lot like me. Even the teacher's called us by each other's names. Our yearbook pictures looked nothing alike though... but we definitely resembled each other. I often wonder what she looks like now. If she's lucky she looks nothing like me. LOL

Diane...

I think we do. I have had that same sensation of thinking I have seen someone I know ~ can be bittersweet if it's a loved one who has passed. Glad it brought good feelings for you about your mom. :)

Renee-do you ever watch Crossing Over? If you are a believer that the after life is still very nearby-then you could have ACTUALLY seen your Mother. It would have been her way of saying she is around you. John, the medium, always says they have a way of showing they are around, but we, in this world, always try and dismiss it as a passing fancy. So if you believe-be happy!!! She is still with you!!

I believe we all do somewhere.
When I was about to celebrate my 16th birthday, I was going through the mall with my cousin and happened to glance at a bench where a man was sitting. He was wearing a green plaid jacked and green cap similar to what my father often wore, and even resembled him in many ways. I had to look again. (My father had passed away 3 years earlier) The man looked up a smiled, just like my dad's smile.
I felt both unsettled and yet surrounded by a loving warmth at the same time ; it that makes any sense.

I have watched his show...am still waiting for him to call me on the telephone and tell me "Renee a little short woman with blonde hair has been bugging the )*$^ out of me and she has something to tell you" ....:biglaugh:

I agreed to embrace that moment of just missing her and feeling good about seeing someone that reminded me of her....

Do y'all really believe that "Crossing Over" show?

I saw a Rosie O'Donnell show and she was just ripping on him for rooking people. One of the things I remember her saying is that the show is filmed for a veeerrry long time, much longer then the actual show. I think he just keeps going around the room until he gets something to stick and then runs with it.

I do think there may be ways for people from beyond to make contact with us, but I don't think "Crossing Over" is the ticket.

He tapes all day because he does more than one show per taping. Like game shows-they will tape 6 shows at one time.

I chose to believe and just because Rosie says he is a fraud, doesn't mean that it MUST be accurate. ;)

It isn't just that Amy... I have actually sat down and watched the show. I think horoscopes, tarrot cards (sp?) and things of the like are ok if they are done in fun, but I've never taken alot of stock in them. The people that are at the tops of their field are very skilled in the way they use their voices and words.

But if you believe it... hey that's cool.

I can't say that Rosie and I see eye to eye on everything, but I also think she probably has some behind the scenes info. that we aren't privy to. But, who knows?

OMG!! thank you Brichard for showing me the light!

Of course there will be critics!! There are critics to every fad diet out there-but if it works for you-then who is to say that it is wrong or bad? I think fasting is wrong, and you have fasted in the past, and your happy with the outcome-then am I right or wrong? If ROSIE said it and she has inside info.-and she is still fat, then is she right or wrong??? The whole Rosie reference is hysterical because she is accusing someone of being fake and yet she alluded to the fact that she was straight all these years.

If John provides a comfort for grieving families and promises light at the end of the tunnel-then why piss on his parade?

Leigh

I think so. I know I would see several people in Germany and swear that I knew them. Then I realized why, it was because they looked so much like someone I knew back home. :D

Hang on their Philly! I said it was cool if you believed in it, did I not???

Let's just throw the Rosie thing out. It has been so long since I've seen the show, but I seem to her alluding to some of the things this article talks about. He tapes his shows for such a long time b/c he has to in order to actually make a "connection" with somebody.

He also, IMO, catches Mr. Edwards "red-handed" in to pretending to be blessed with information that he had prior knowledge of. I really expected you to give me your take on this information. Personally, I like to see the pros and cons of either side, regardless of my opinion. That is why I said "You will find this interesting." I didn't say "Read this dumb dumb!" LOL!!! I am genuinely curious why you see this man in a different light then I do.

Dieting for me is a perfect example. I primarily subscribe to the low-fat approach in dieting, but I like to read on all approaches. I prefer to be a student and pick what works well for me. I've read The Zone and The Atkins diet for example.

As it relates to fasting... I've only done it twice in my life! However, many books mention it as a good thing to do including books from alternative medicine guru Andrew Weil to religious books like The Bible. But again... I think it is cool that we all have different opinions. Life would be pretty boring if we were all
alike, eh?

The reason I like to challenge Jonathan Edwards is that if he is rooking people, then that is just plain wrong. If... and again I use the term if... If he is lying to these people he is the equivalent of a bogus faith healer touring the country. I don't find lying to people to be an acceptable thing... again... if!

I'm a John Edward believer. :yippee: :D

Brichard - Out of curiousity....Have you watched his show? What about the celebrities that have been on there and believed in him? There's no way he can just be "guessing" some of that info he gives...imo. :tinysmile Have you ever seen Sylvia Browne? She's another one that fascinates me - probably more so than John Edwards, but he's still up there. :) My dh is a huge skpetic and used to laugh at me when I would tell him stories about what they could do and then I got him to watch with me a few times....although he is not as big of a believer as I am he is amazed by it and has come around more than I ever thought he would. :yippee: It's interesting to get people's views on this and becasue I am such a believer in it I would love to try to convince you to be too...if even just a little bit!! :D

as for Rosie....I love all the good she does...but hey..the woman thinks Tom Cruise is HOTTER than MEL GIBBSON....HELLO.....

Karla B... I have actually seen the show. I guess I have read so many books on sales and the power of the mind that I am convinced that people can really lead you certain ways. I also think that it is amazing what people can really find out about you, particularly with celebrities, when you really seek to find out information.

Harvey McKay is a famous motivational guy that wrote the book "Swim with the Sharks Without Being Eaten Alive." He has a famous formula of questions... I forget the exact number, but it is like 55. Anyway, I was reading another book on a sales motivator and he said that when he met McKay that he was amazed that McKay had already found out the entire questionairre on his profile! They had never even met.

If Edwards were really blessed with the gift of hearing other spirits, how do you explain the fact that he is only right such a low percentage of the time? I just really believe that when people want to believe something bad enough, that their minds will find ways of finding answers to the questions he asks.

I guess part of it is a religious thing for me as well. I think that such a spiritual gift would only be reserved for a prophet... and Edwards does not seem like a prophet for me.

It is amazing what the mind can be programmed to believe. I have listened to Anthony Robbins and he speaks of people under hypnosis who are told that an ice cube is hot to the touch. The person is touched under hypnosis and gets a visible burn mark. I am skeptical on this as well, but if it is true, it just goes to show me how malleable the mind can be.

Exactly what does a prophet seem like? Do you believe Jesus is the son of God? Many people thought he was a fake and yet we choose to believe. Why do you believe what you believe in life? Is there anything that you believe in that some don't? Does it have to be written in a book somewhere in order for you to choose to believe in something or not? Isn't there anything in your life that you feel strongly about despite contrary opinions? I ask this because this is the foundation of why I choose to believe in what John says.

If John has this gift, then he shares in the best way he can. If he is such a phoney-why would he open himself up to having a tv show where he can be speculated upon so critically? I also think he is on target MUCH more than you think. JMHO

Well first of all, if he were a prophet, don't you think he'd say so? I've never heard him prophesy, he only seems to connect the dead with living family members. This is a pretty simple question to answer to me unless he has claimed something differently. I also think that Jesus was the last of the prophets to come, although somebody may have a different theological perspective. I believe there will be prophets as the tales of Revelation unfold, but I don't see why you would need any before then.

Yes I do believe in Jesus. There is a large amount of scientific data in addition to the fact that he is with me. There are lots of intangibles that I can't describe and things that have happened to me in my personal relationship with Jesus, but I know he is real.

Is there anything that you believe in that some don't? How about this topic here, or many other topics from the debate board? LOL

Does it have to be written in a book somewhere in order for you to choose to believe in something or not?

No it does not. I have some unique views on theology regarding the trinity for example.

Isn't there anything in your life that you feel strongly about despite contrary opinions? I ask this because this is the foundation of why I choose to believe in what John says.

Again, I direct you to other debates I've shared on here. I have my own mind and own views.

If John does have the gift... then I agree with you. As for the reasons as to why he would leave himself under exposure... that is easy for me $$$$$! He has a T.V. show, a book, etc. There have been clairvoyants since the beginning of time, and they will probably always be around. In regards to how often he is correct, every review I have seen on somebody who has attended the show, albeit few, has mentioned this low success rate. I simply have not seen any different data.

Where do you read these percentages? Maybe they are people who went there as sceptics? Maybe they are disgruntled because they didn't get a reading? How do we know the numbers are accurate? Is everyone that attends his show giving their opinion? Just seems like the numbers could be a little biased based on what the people reporting them want them to show???

There are people who get readings and the info he gives them doesn't connect right away. He tells them to go home and think about it. Sometimes when they go home and relay to family members what he said they are the ones who are in shock because they can't believe he knew certain things. Maybe the people who are giving negative reviews aren't aware of the feedback he gets after the fact. I think when people are at the show and getting a reading they are sometimes overwhelmed and nervous - not all of the info is being processed immediately and therefore it may look like he is wrong more than he actually is....

And, he also tells people getting a reading NOT to give him info - to answer as much as possible with yes or no and I have seen him cut people off if they start to give too much info....

Well Karla, Rosie and the guy who wrote the article pasted above, both mentioned how long he had to tape his show to get TV quality material. I have acknowledged that this is an extremely small sample space of data, but again... it is all I have to go by.

I'm going to have to just agree to disagree with y'all. I had a real deep fascination with ghosts, hypnosis, clairvoyants at a young age and just devoured information on the subjects. I had a friend and we read every book on ESP they had! I also remember loving the show "That's Incredible," which also peaked my interest.

For whatever reason, the older I get the more skeptical I get. My gut just tells me that this guy is a sham, but obviously in this group I have the minority opinion.
