View Full Version : Ever gotten pregnant while on the pill?

No... not me!!! :rolleyes: LOL
My oldest dd asked me to post this question for her. She is wondering if anyone here has ever gotten pregnant while on the pill, and if so, did you start to spot or how did it make you feel? I guess she started spotting shortly after they got married, (after having sex) and has been spotting ever since. 8o She was on this same pill when she was 17 and she didn't experience any spotting at that time, so she doesn't really think it's the pill that's causing it. She doesn't know if she should take herself off from the pill (I told her to take a pregnancy test) or what. She also said that her stomach hasn't been feeling very well... but she didn't go into detail about exactly how it felt. So.......... if this has ever happened to you or if you know anything about it, I'd sure appreciate any answers. Thanks so much!!!

Yes, I did. And yes, I had spotting or as the doctor called it, break through bleeding. He told me it wasn't a problem. I got pregnant a couple of months after I asked him about it. Since then a friend told me she had the same problem and her doctor switched perscriptions for her. Something about a change in the body making the perscription to weak. I had been on it for 4 years when I began having problems.
Also, some things can interfer with the absorption of the pill or speed up the breakdown. Same with all *medicines*. Antibiotics and St. John's Wort can both affect the effectiveness of the pill.
Another thing - While I know I never missed a day (DH helped remind me since we went on vacation), I didn't take it at the same time everyday. I would take it when I woke up and brushed my teeth, somedays very early and some days closer to noon. I've since found out you should take it within the same 2 hour period everyday.

No, I never did. I was so regular when I was on the pill. About 4 months after I stopped taking it is when I got pregnant.

I never did, but I have a friend who did.... got pg a month after they were married.... don't know details though.
I have had both break through bleeding on the pill (doc changed the prescription) and gotten pregnant while on the pill. I didn't spot then.

My niece got pregnant while on the pill. She never missed a pill or anything either. Of course, now I have a great nephew named Mason that I dearly love but it sure was a shock to her!!! :)
I don't know if she had any spotting or anything like that. I would be checking on a preg test if it was me.
not me personally, but both my great nieces were pill babies....:lol: my niece was taking an antibiotic at the time of her dd #1 (antibiotics cancel out the pill) second dd just happend while she was on the pill it evidently was one of those 1 percent things.....as for spotting I am not sure of....get a preg test to just KNOW.....:)
Not personally, but have known several people who have. I'd tell her to take the pregnancy test and to also call the dr just to see. A few friends have said they spotted while other didn't.
I was thinking about your dd this weekend Diane. I was wondering how long ago she started the pill this time. Maybe she wasn't on it long enough to be effective before she got married. Let us know how she's doing.

She took a pregnancy test and it came back negative... so she called and talked with her doctor and they are going to try her on a weaker dose... so we'll see what happens. 8o Thanks for all of your replies... I (and she) really appreciated your input. :)
