View Full Version : Worried about my dd not drinking milk
My dd who will be 5 next month doesn't drink milk. She was couldn't drink it when she was younger and just hasn't acquired a taste for it.
She'll eat icecream.
She's tried milk and doesn't like it.
I'm worried about her calcium intake.
The Dr. said I could give her Tums everyday.
Does anybody else have any suggestions or is dealing with the same thing?

I NEVER drink milk but I take a calcium supplement every day. Have you ever tried giving her chocolate milk? When my kids were younger they didn't like regular white milk either but would still drink chocolate milk. That and there are a lot of other foods that contain calcium, so drinking milk isn't the only way for them to get calcium. If you can't get your dd to drink ANY milk at all... you might want to think about giving her a vitamin and mineral supplement. Good luck and I hope you find something that works.

I had a friend whose dd would only drink strawberry milk! Another friend whose ds will only drink it warmed a little.
How about yogurt, cheese, calcium fortified bread (by Wonder) and calcium orange juice?

Ditto about the choc and strawberry milk. My dks drink choc milk all the time, so we buy choc milk gallons but I add (a lot of) white milk so it's not SO chocolatey. What about making malts - a double bonus with ice cream and milk! :licklips: And, ditto on Amy's food suggestions. Good luck!!! :)

so I never acquired a taste for milk either when I was younger (they didn't have the pills available then).
I agree.....try making chocolate milk or strawberry milk. It's just as healthy and she will probably enjoy it. Also what about making milk shakes. This way you could also add icecream for extra calcium and some fruit into it too. I usually get my calcium from yoghurt, cheese, and other foods such as broccoli and almonds. :licklips: They are all very high in calcium. You can also buy vitamins (ie Flinstones) that have extra calcium in them. I am a little hesitant about giving something like TUMS to my kids because they are designed for adults not children (at least here in Canada). Let us know how it goes. :thumb:

I never aquired a taste for milk either. I do not like yogurt, or non-melted cheese, and I used to not eat ice cream either. My mom never pushed the issue though. I guess she snuck it in things like mac and cheese, broccoli and cheese, and casseroles with cheese. She would put melted cheese on a lot of stuff. Now I take vitamins and eat things with...... what else ......melted cheese, of course. LOL!!!
