View Full Version : Why is it so dead in here??
What have you all been up to this morning? I was thrilled to get dd back to school. I think she was more happy than me. LOL I also managed to go to work for 1/2 hour and take a 1 1/2 mile walk this am. I always feel much better after exercise.
I also got my first paycheck for being a consultant :{ I was supposed to do the work of a would be consultant who was going to be paid $1,000 up front and $250 a month (average of 3 hours per month) for 18 months (ttl-$6,000). I put in over 30 hours this months and did about 5 months of a consultants work in just one month. Well, I never received any money up front and they give me $125 for this month!!???? I think they gave me half because I started this on March 10th. But still.. what a slap in the face! I have grown some balls over the years and promptly called her up and said this won't do. I couldn't tell if she was embarrassed or just busy with a customer because she was short and said she will talk to her dh and get back to me.
On a happier note, I feel life is getting into a groove! Dh called twice and it felt as if he was just at work. I was also more relaxed when he said there were a lot of his battalion in the area and they are not so isolated as I previously thought. Feeling much more safe now. :)
Amy, It's Amy. Wanna meet me in the chat room for a few minutes?
Oh and anyone else too! I just saw that Amy was on...

Hey Amy!! I am glad to hear you are feeling better. Can you walk a little extra for me?
:happydnc:
We have had an interesting morning. I kept waiting for my nephew to show up so we could leave for playgroup. His mom called and said she had just gotten out of the doctors office and he has shingles. Yikes!! I don't see any way that my kids could be infected.....but I didn't go to playgroup since we have 2 pregnant mother's and I didn't want to take a chance of them getting anything. Nephew is contagious for about 10 days so his parents are going to have to trade off caring for him and working. He is in so much pain, poor little thing. :bigcry:
We are just hanging at home today. Hopefully we will get outside this afternoon as it is beautiful outside. Spring has definately sprung here....it is supposed to rain all week!!
Sorry Amy! I hopped off the internet as soon as I posted the thread. I hope you didn't think I stiffed you!! I just didn't know! Sorry
Angie-Is it true that shingles is just the adult form of Chicken Pox? The poor child. Has he had chicken pox yet?
Hi all! :bounce:
Just stopping in for a minute...had to see what was up :)
My ds is home sick (it started yesterday..think it's sinus infection) and then my oldest dd's school called and said she wasn't feeling well...groan....both are OK in that they just hang out, watch TV, kind of quiet...that works. Hopefully I don't get a call about youngest dd now!
I'm trying to get some housework done...emphasis on trying. I keep coming across things that need done so none of the general stuff is getting accomplished. Oh well...and I still have to get my Easter decorations out...I can't believe it's less than 2 weeks away! :bunny:
I'd better get some shopping done, too!
Amy/CO, I'm so glad you're hearing from your dh...that has to make you feel so much better :)
Angie, I'm so sorry about your nephew...poor kid..that is painful.
If I remember right, once you've had chicken pox, you are more likely to get shingles...they are a similar virus. Wish I could remember it all....
Have a good day all!
Oh, and it's OPENING DAY in BASEBALL!!!!!
:happydnc:
I hope everyone's team wins ...unless you're a White Sox fan...which is playing my Tribe! LOL
Well, when Amy snapped at me, :bigcry: I decided to go do some chores! I have been cleaning out the garage and the patio...a hutch that I was throwing out fell apart on my foot and now it is all swollen...school called and dd threw up in the cafeteria so she is home......she was kind of gagging while she was coughing last night...so not sure what is up, she seems just fine now..think she is jealous of brother's attention
had been planning on getting the kids' haircut..guess we can go now and beat the after school crowd!
oh, and we don't get to go to opening day tomorrow cause the people that we share the tickets with couldn't go so they gave them away!!!!!!!!!!

Shingles - It is the same virus as chicken pox. After you have the pox the virus lays domant in your body and when it decides to surface again, for no known reason, sufaces as shingles. Shingles actually attacks the nerves on one side of the body never crossing the midline. You can hae shingles more that once. My nephew has never had the chicken pox, but since he had the immunization where they actually shoot the virus into you, they think that is why it is shingles and not pox. You cannot "catch" shingles, but if you touch the open sores of a person with shingles you can get the chicken pox. This is so weird. Since it attacks the nerves it is very painful and then surfaces as welts that turn into blisters. It is very dangerous if you get it in your eye or on your nose. angie r MD LOL
I am sorry for all the sickies out there! I hope everyone gets to feeling better.
Dk's and I blew out 4 eggs and decorated them and put them under the easter trees. It was fun and not to long a project. I think we need to get out though, all I hear is fighting in the other room.

Dks are having a fun day with having their cousin here today. What's GREAT is that the two older boys are very tolerant of my youngest ds, so there has been NO fighting and I have been able to get some stuff done around here. (knock on wood!) Also, when they are done playing with something my nephew suggests that they pick it all up before getting something else out! :yippee: He's such a good kid and fun to have around. Think we'll have him over more this summer, but then I think I'll have a house full because his brother and sister will want to come, too in addition to my 14 yo bro. Might cause me to be a little :goofy: or maybe even :tearhair:! LOL!
Hope all the little ones under the weather are feeling better soon!!
Amy/CO - So glad you heard from dh again and that things seem to be going better. And, hopefully you will get things figured out with the $$ mixup!!! Aargh!! :\

I've noticed that it's been pretty quiet here today too. It sounds like a lot little ones are sick... Hope they all get much better real soon! My day care kids had a bout with all kinds of illnesses a few weeks ago and I'm SO glad that they are all much better now. I hate to see little kids sick... and I feel for you guy's having to be the ones awake half of the night taking care of them. :) I SO remember all of those sleepless nights... especially when more than one child was ill at the same time. I hope they all get better soon!!!!!! :)

I am glad I read through todays posts before posting my ? to you all.....just brought dd home from the dr. and she has SHINGLES! One big patch on her back and another coming out on her front. Dr. said calamine lotion for the itchys and tylenol/advil for the pain. She has been a real trooper and not complained too much. The dr. also sent her for bloodwork, which she was not impressed with! LOL
Dd has had the chicken pox, and now this. I hope this won't be a reoccuring nightmare for her! (or your nephew).
Amazing how much our lives parallel each other on this board!

Angie, my dr. said that dd can go to school and unless she touches the fluid from her shingles or someone else touches the fluid, that she is not "contagious" per say. Because they are under her clothing, we are pretty sure she won't spread chicken pox around to anyone else. Also, our dr. said that more may come out on her (she got her first patch last week and another new patch on Sat.), so not sure if 10 days will really make a difference for your nephew to stay home.
:)
Hope she is not too miserable and gets better soon!

Hi everyone!! checking in here late today. I subbed at school. Knock on wood my dks haven't been sick since Nov. I am sure we will get something. Windy and overcast here. dh is at the Rockies game in Denver, it looks sunny on tv. Last I checked they were beating St. Louis 6 to 0. Guess I better get the dks off to tae kwon do. Would have loved to chat today. Please do it another day too Amy!! See ya all!!
I hope dd is better soon! How weird is that to hear of two kiddos with them at the same time?! I've only known adults with them and the one was hospitalized it was so painful :(
Take care...and hugs to dd!
I hope you got your win! We lost :( Oh well, there's always the next game....(but I wanted to win this game!) :bigcry:

I think that would be fine if he were at school. He stays here, he and my ds are shirtless most of the day. They also take baths together. His patches are on his stomach, back and legs. I also think it is a good excuse for her to get to spend time with him. Oh, and he is positively nasty in attitude.
