I work at the after school childcare and was wanting some ideas on doing a little game for 10 min. or so. Does anyone have any ideas to get the students settle down since school is out but they are still at school and are very excited. I also was thinking of just having a discussion about how there day was but am afraid of what I may get into and if it comes that someone had problems how to handle it so any suggestions.:snickers:

What age level of kids are you working with?
The ideas that come to my mind are things like:
Give every student a piece of paper folded in thirds. Tell everyone to draw a head( could be animal or person). Then have them fold that out of sight. Pass the paper to the person on their right/left. Then everyone draws a body (person or animal). Fold down again and pass in same direction as before. Draw legs and feet. Pass papers up front and see the silly creations they make.
Have them write their feelings about the day (if you can get them to write after a long day of school)
Play "Who What Where" Choose 3 Helpers. The first one whispers in each child's ear who they are (a dog, Peter Pan, Goofy, etc.) The second helper whispers in each child's ear what they are doing (roller skating, eating fudge, knitting, etc.) The third helper whispers to each one where they are doing it (kitchen, park, church, etc). Then go around and have each child tell who they are, what they're doing and where they're at.
Mad Libs--(you can find these kind of books in book stores) Ask the kids for the words you need that are missing from the story (name of person, noun, verb, adjective, etc.--the books tell you what kinds of words your looking for.) Once you have the words, read the completed (mixed up story) to the class.
Hope these help. Good luck!!
Thank you those do sound neat for the kids. They range from k-3 grade. I will try those ideas thanks alot.
