View Full Version : Dr. Phil
How much do you love Dr. Phil? I caught him on Oprah today. Boy he just doesn't beat around the bush. AnnW is he your brother? LOL! He just tells it like it is. Last week he made Oprah blush. I love his accent. Loved what he had to say this month in O magazine as well.
Hey David, why don't you get him to make guest visits here. I bet some of us could use his advice.
LOL Kat!
I don't watch Oprah much, but everytime I have seen it, he is on...is the Oprah and Phil show now??? LOL
I do like him, he seems to be "real"..I also like that he makes the person take responsibility instead of just being a victim.
I love him too. I don't get to watch Oprah much but love it when I get to see him on the show.
He totally says what you would like to say to some people.
Well, it's true he doesn't beat around the bush, but sometimes he is just so abrupt that it seems like he doesn't take time to even think about what he is saying! One time there was this couple on and the husband was whining that she was spending all her time and energy on their brand new baby, and Dr. Phil is telling her she needs to "Be his wife" and proceeds to rake her over the coals for not being a "good" wife. Clearly the poor woman was suffering from Post Partem depression, and he didn't address or even acknowledge it! She had a brand new baby, the husband wasn't helping her AT ALL, she was exhausted, she was depressed, and his great advice was "Be his wife" what the H@#! does THAT mean? My friend and I were livid about it. He was soooo off base.
That said, there have been other times when he his straight forward approach has cut right to the chase and been helpful to those he's dealing with.
Still, Oprah's hero worship of him is kind of annoying to me.

I really like him, too. It's interesting when people that he talks to on her show seem upset with what he is telling them, but then are on a later show saying his advice sort of woke them up after the fact. I bought one of his books, but haven't had time to read it yet and I don't catch Oprah as much as I would like to either.
Did anyone see the show about spending(?) and the gal who basically laughed at everything he said and everytime she spoke? She couldn't see how her out of control spending could affect her marriage if her husband loves her. She would go on $1000 shopping sprees, etc. She about drove me NUTS! :tearhair: I actually thought he was too nice to her! LOL!

Oh Karla, I saw that one, she had a nervous laugh or something. I thought he was going to knock her out (or maybe I thought he should have!)
Dr. Phil is on Oprah every Tuesday. I still haven't been able to get tickets. They are full for April and should start accepting reservations for May soon. I want to go... :bigcry:

I do think she had a nervous laugh, but it was annoying! Also the fact that she couldn't really see anything wrong with her behavior. :banghead:
I have always wanted to go to a show, too! A friend went and said it was AWESOME. They were in aisle seats and Oprah stopped to talk to her! I'd probably be too :dazed: to even talk! LOL! Good luck getting tickets! :)

Hey...just to comment on the "spending gal"...I couldn't believe they let that happen on the show. What a waste of time! Dr Phil went so far as to say to her that she was a smart woman. What?!!!! I had a tough time watching that one.
I actually like his no bs way but I think they miss the mark once in awhile. I saw that show with the depressed woman that Amy mentioned and I was very surprised by the fact that he was so insensitve to such a fragile situation.
Oh well, I think the show does much, much more good than harm so.... Oprah and Phil....you still have my respect.

I saw that show on spending too. I felt so sorry for that poor husband! It just seemed like she felt totally justified in her spending and "what was the big deal, I deserve it" Poor Phil was way nicer to her than I would have been!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL

Ok now ya'll are talking. Oprah is something that is shown over here. I too do not get to see it very often because it comes on when I am at work, but I have seen it and for the most part I do like Phil. I do agree that he can be too insensitive at times too though.
