View Full Version : Home prices...YIKES
ok, when we were living in Upstate NY....houses were I thought decent prices....here in CA....its ridiculous...we found some great neighborhoods...but all the houses are around $329,000. YIKES8o even in the nieghborhood I grew up in, found a house for sale for $299,000.....och....
so what are houses going for in your neck of the woods....and are you glad your not buying right now....LOL..
It really depends on the neighborhood. It's about $120 a square foot here.
looks like $160.00 a sq foot here.....YIKES....nice niehborhoods and school districts....LOL...just 8o startled me and dh we knew certain counties were high...but didn't think this one was....things sure change quickly...
Renee-how could you not know that California was going to be extremely high-you are from there! LOL Cape Cod is like that too. Budda's 900 sq foot house went for $200,000!!!!
The area back in NY where we want to live is on the high-end. All the houses I like are over $200,000.

When we came out here last year....Chino Hills, wasn't that built up yet...so it really was cheaper....low 200,000....now everything has built up on its way out to San Diego....everything is low to mid 300,000...we knew it was a growing area...but man....who knew that within a year this place has grown by leaps and bounds.....three new schools in one year have/are going up....
on a brighter note....we saw some we can swing in the area's we like.....and its not much further from where we are now...but its a better school district....:yippee:

I agree... it's amazing how expensive housing is. 8o When my mom was selling her house and the realtor put a $230,000 price tag on it, I thought she was absolutely crazy... but that's what she got for it. It too was really small. (only 900 sq. feet) We just recently had our house appraised at $275.000. There was a little shack of a house about a mile away from ours that was going for $l50,000. You can't get too much for under $200,000 anymore. My dd and her dh have been looking around at houses and are wondering if they'll ever be able to afford to get into one. LOL Good luck though... I hope you can find something in the area you want for the right price. :)

Isn't it unreal? They are high here, too. Dh and I were amazed at what houses were going for in our neighborhood last year. And, then when we went out looking - wow!! 8oI know we made more by selling on our own and saved by buying from the people we did since they were also selling on their own. Anyway, good luck! :)
undeveloped land goes from 20K to 500K an acre.
Homes from 130K to whatever you want to spend

OMG!!! I couldn't even fathom paying that much for a house! Average prices in our town are $80,000. Mind you, wages around here are fairly pitiful too.
Good luck finding one Renee!

Our house would easily go for $325,000-350,000. It's 1650 sq ft with an unfinished basement and garage with 3/4 acre of land. Our neighbor has her house up for $275.000 and it's a much smaller foundation her sq ft I think is in the 13's and no garage.
When we bought the house 10 years ago we paid $109,000!!!! It's insane.
On the flip side of that, when the recession hit Houston in the mid 80's, you couldn't give houses away!!! Homes that had been valued in the 200's were lucky to sell for the low 100's.

ROFL!! I was thinking the EXACT same thing!!!!! I've always know that I NEVER wanted to live in CA because it is SOOOOOO expensive. If you want it cheaper, you have to buy when the developments are first built. If you wait even a short period of time, the prices skyrocket.
Homes here in AK are very expensive too. Way too may duplexes here also.
