I was just wondering... what was the absolute WORST gift you have ever received. What did you end up doing with it? Have you ever REgifted a gift to someone else?

What was the BEST gift you've ever received? Also... what is the BEST gift you think you've ever given to someone else? I'm not trying to be nosey... just trying to start a new thread. LOL

To answer my own question... I think the absolute worst gift I ever received was from my mother and father in-law. It was a FREE cookbook they had received for ordering something else... I can't even remember what kind of a cookbook it was... 8o but it was for something really different, that I wasn't or never would be interested in. LOL It wasn't worth REgifting to anyone... so I think it ended up in a garage sale in the "FREE" basket. LOL

The best gift I ever received was for absolutely nothing. One of my dcp wanted to show her appreciation to me, and sent me a gift certificate for a two night stay at Embassey Suits Hotel... 8o 8o I thought that was pretty special. :)

I think the absolute best gift I ever gave was to my neighbor's dd when she had her baby. I had started buying a bunch of "little" things way before the delivery and ended up with a big box of all kinds of things, including 3 or 4 nice outfits, blankets and a little snowsuit. So... how about you?

If I had to say right now, I would say that the worst gift I ever received was a sign from my MIL that said, Kitchen Closed, This Heifer's gone to Walmart!(it had a cow on it). I thought that the idea was cute, but I didn't like the heifer part because that doesn't sound right even if she was joking. (which now I realize she wasn't)

I can't think of an absolute favorite gift right now off the top of my head, I will have to get back to you on that one.

I can't think of a bad gift I received I must have blocked them out of my mind.

The best gift I received was a pair of tickets to the Boston Ballet's The Nutcracker. I had alway wanted to see it and my dh got me ticket for my 24th birthday. It was fantastic. I don't think I would go again because it couldn't possible be as good as the first time I saw it.

Leigh! Do we have the same in-laws?????????

My WORST gift EVER was a MU-MU (I'm tempted to spell it Moo-Moo!!)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I tossed that piece of crap.

My in-laws went to Hawaii and brought back the mu-mu for me and short tank dresses for the other 2 daughter-in-laws.... how embarrassed was I to open mine in front of everyone....... :{

The rest of the question, I'll have to think about. :)

For a worst gift, the only thing that came to mind was a sweatshirt I got one year for Christmas from a family member--it was white with black newspaper print all over it and it looked like someone took different colors of fluorescent paint and sprayed it in spots. It was extremely ugly and SO not me. I don't have a poker face and I KNOW my face was screaming, "What the H#%! is THIS???" LOL! "Oh...gee...how...interesting!" ;)

The best was from dh--he surprised me for my 30th birthday. He made me think he was having a party for me. The day of the party, I went to breakfast with my friend. While I was with her, he packed my bags. When I got back, he told me we were going to get some drinks and food for the party at Costco...which was right by the airport. He "made a wrong turn" and we ended up having to go around the circle at the airport--but he stopped at the gate and popped the trunk and told me that we were going to have a party, but that it was actually in Pittsburgh at my mom's house. LOL! I hadn't seen them for a few years and it was SUCH an awesome surprise!

Oh, I forgot to add that I also received a children's toy from blockbuster of a snowman that goes round and round when you push a lever. Dh and I were going through our Christmas things the other night, it was dated 1999. I got this last year. (2001)

Now mind you this is the same MIL that still refuses to speak to us because she didn't like the mother's day gift we got her. Dh and I got a good laugh out of that one. :biglaugh:

Renee....how did your dh like that watch that you ordered for him? I don't remember seeing a post about that. Did I miss it?

Hmmmm...worst gift??? Probably an airport/airplane set made ENTIRELY out of seashells. Believe it or not, we received this from one of dh's aunts as a wedding gift. Strange! Ugly, too!!! LOL

Best gift was my anniversary band...not for it's value...but for it's sentiment and surprise values! Dh and I always joked around about how I'd wanted an anniversary band...and dh (many years ago) would say, "Yeah...maybe at our 10th anniversary." It was always in good fun...never thought he'd remember. Well on our 10th anniversary he'd given me a Precious Moments figurine with the ring on one of the hands.:* :*

The worst gift I ever received was from my SIL. We had drawn names on dh's side of the family and were asked to make out lists. I clearly put on my list NO SWEATERS. (I had way too many at the time and I don't particularly like wearing them either, especially not big bulky ones with shoulder pads). So that's exactly what I got from my SIL. It wasn't her fault though because dh's grandma or aunt forgot to give all the lists out!!

Hmmm.. The best gift I ever received. Besides toys when I was a kid, I would say the game boy my dh got me on Mother's Day this past year.

The best gift I've given someone (Do my own kids count?)-I think it was the couch/toybox I gave my 3 youngest kids. They keep their books in there and we haven't had as many problems with books scattered all over the house.

Other than kids--I edited some video footage of my kids doing different things and then found songs that went along with it and made a video Christmas card for all the Grandparents one year.

I can't think of anything regarding me right now because this thread totally has me thinking of a friend and her mil.....every year for Christmas her mil gives her a million presents however they are ALL things she got free - things she sends in rebates for or gets free because she bought something else....are you ready to hear what she gets???? tampons, DOUCHES, ugly socks, etc!! 8o Can you imagine sitting in front of the family opening a douche? Plus, her mil individually wraps the stuff so it looks like she is giving a lot and it's not like my friend can just dig thru one big box of stuff and not pull out the douche and tampons! 8o

I can't think of any "worst" gifts right now. Probably the best received has been time away with dh. :) Best given I think was to dh for Christmas one year. He had been begging me to get my ham radio license and I kept saying no, that it was too much work to study for the test, I didn't know the first thing about it, etc. I ended up studying for, taking *and* passing the test without him knowing it. So I framed our licenses and gave them to him. Knocked his socks off. :)

The gift I had the most fun giving was surprising dh with a trip to California for his bday, just to get away. He didn't have a clue. It was *not* easy keeping it from him, either!!! I am such a blabber mouth, LOL!
