Ok, ds recieved an invitation to a party, its Saturday at Chuck E Cheese....I don't know these people...when I called to RSVP...they didn't really speak english all that well....although ds says the children speak it fine....so here is my question....

I am planning on taking ds to Chuck E Cheeses, and then going in with dd and sitting somewhere away from them....I don't really feel comfortable leaving my son there with strangers....is this rude? How do you all do this when you don't really know the children or parents involved??(

I haven't been in that situation yet, but like you I think I would hang around - especially considering you are new to the area and probably don't have a lot of connections yet where you would feel comfortable to do a little asking around. Are you supposed to drop off your ds and pick him up? You could just say your dd is really wanting to go to Chuck E Cheese, too and you thought you'd have a special 'date' with her rather than going all the way back home or something. I am sure now that ds is in kindergarten we will run into this same thing, but at least so far I have pretty much seen the parents on a daily basis for drop off and had some conversations with almost if not all of them. I don't know how I'll handle it when they are older....how do ya'll do it?? :)

I remember when dd got invited to a party in PreK, I was all set to drop her off cause I had been doing that for years with ds and had really forgotten that the moms still stayed in Prek...the mom just looked at me like I was the worst mom in the world! LOL

After about 1st grade we would pretty much just drop off. I would usually ask the mom if she needed help first, but sometimes I used it as errand time. And there are not always stuff for the sibling to do so that definitely would dictate if I was staying or not.

Today, being concerned with your child's safety is not a matter of being rude. Too many things are happening to children - we've got to watch over them.

That said :) I think what you've planned, Renee, is right on. And I totally understand your apprehension.

he is after all only 7....;)
