View Full Version : Has your ds ever asked for a baby doll?

My ds has started playing with babies at pre-school. He is usually stuffing them in play purses. LOL We were just at Big Lots and he saw this doll inside a clear suitcase and said "I want this!" He went up to this doll and told it that he loved it. He was adamant about not wanting one with hair, but the bald one. I was so touched that he wanted something other than a robot for once, that I almost bought it on the spot. I told him he has to ask Santa for one for Christmas.

Has anyone given a doll for their son and did the son actually play with it?

Yes. Oldest ds (now 21) wanted a doll as a child. I got him a My Little Buddy doll. He loved it. My dh didn't want to get him one. Must have been a macho thing. I said, "how better to teach him to be loving and nuturing than to give him the same oportunity to play at parenting just like we so eagerly teach little girls to do". I ended up getting him one for Christmas. He played with it for years.

Ds #2 never expressed a desire to have a doll, so I never got him one. I say if he wants one, get him one.

Ds has never asked for one. He would play with them at daycare when he was 3, but that usually involved removing their clothes and/or head. LOL! He nurtures and sleeps with his stuffed bears, though. I'm with Kat--if he wants one, get him one.

Oldest ds received a Cabbage Patch "boy" doll when he was 1 or 2 years old. Youngest ds actually played with it more often! Right now both of my boys have "build-a-bear" toys that they sleep with.

I'm sitting her with tears in my eyes because I just went out and got it for him. He was SO happy when I gave it to him and said "I missed you baby" and now he is rocking it and giving it a bottle, singing rock-a-bye baby.

It's a girl doll too. Thankfully, dh isn't affected by it and told me to go our and buy it. He wants to take pics to show his future girlfriends. LOL

Does anyone remember the song "William wants a doll" from the sound track Free to be you and me? That is what is playing in my head as he is playing with it. I just love sweet moments like this.

My mom got oldest ds a Cabbage Patch preemie when he was very young - he loved it! Then, when he had youngest ds oldest ds started "nursing" his baby! :o Pics of that will be saved for blackmail later on. :brow: ;) Dh was also fine with dks playing with dolls. My bil on the other hand would croak if he saw his ds's with a doll.

So glad you got the doll for your ds Amy! Love his reaction!! :)

I think it's great for kids to play with different types of toys. I think many people worry about boys playing with dolls, but don't think anything of a little girl playing hotwheels.

That is so sweet! We gave ds a baby Madame Alexander doll when he was about 3 or 4 in anticipation of having another child. He loved that doll!!! Named it Tommy the Baby Jesus! LOL He slept with that doll till he was maybe 6 or so.

I never had a ds to ask for one but did have a few little boy's in my day care who had asked for and received as gifts from their parents. I see nothing wrong with it... and think it's nice to see that even little boy's can love/play and show affection towards a little doll (baby). Some day he'll make a good daddy. LOL

DS was given an Ernie doll when he was 1 by the SIL and never once played with it. He never had an interest in playing with DD's dolls when she got into them either. However, when other kids would come over and play, he'd play with the dolls with them. And every boy that has come over so far has picked up the Barbie's and played with them as well. Granted, they tend to make them do extreme sports or at the very least drive something.

Once when he was in K, he and another boy his age were playing with DD's beauty salon. They were curling their hair and even managed to get in a couple of rollers. As soon as they saw me with the camera - everything went out. I just wasn't sneaky enough to get those blackmail photos!

I do have a blackmail photo of DD though. She (age 4) was outside wearing a swimming suit and picked up 5 tennis balls. Two were stuffed giving her a chest. Two more gave her a bubble butt. And the final one reminded me of a jock strap and cup!

My ds had a doll for a while. It was a soft bodied Cabbage Patch Kid. I think we got it for him when he was around 1 or 2 to keep him out of dd's dolls. He would make her really mad when he got into her stuff.

Amy, I'm so glad that you decided to get your ds the baby. Sounds like he's really loving it! :)

My ds will still (he's almost 7) play Barbies and dolls with my dd if she asks him to.
