Here's the problem. Ds#1 just started 1st grade. I would describe him as an average or good student. He's reading and writing as well as he needs to be.
Dd who is in preschool is reading as well as ds. Dd is thrilled, I'm happy for her but Ds is not happy. I've tried explaining to ds that he excels in other areas but this is really bothering him. I'm trying to keep dd away from ds when he is doing homework so she can't answer his questions before he does. I try to read with dd when ds is at school. Is there anything else I could do to keep ds confident? It is really bothering him that dd seems to be learning with little to no effort.

We have the same situation here at our home. Ds1 (3rd grade) is a good student, but Ds2 (1st grade) is learning at a quicker pace. I just praise both for their achievements, and seperate them during homework times (for your reason, and so that they will actually get it done! ). I read to them both...and in turn they both read to me. Ds1 knows that no matter what happens, he is always OLDER!;) That helps him feel better!

I always tell my kids that God made us each in a different way and we all have areas that we are especially talented in. This way we can help one another. If we were all good at the SAME thing then there would be no one to help us with our weak areas.
