I have had it with dogs in the neighborhood!! We have covenants here and dogs are not supposed to run free...only a few actually comply. If I wanted a big dog to poop on my yard and jump on me - I would have one. In the summer the boys were trying to play frisbee with dh when a dog jumped in, grabbed the frisbee and took off. Today there was a golden retriever pup here for the millionth time. He lays by the deck door and acts like he lives here and is waiting to be let in. I feel bad for it - no collar, wet, and he's cute. Anyway, today he went to the front step and totally chewed up a scarecrow guy that my mom bought for the boys. It was sitting by the window of the front door. He also proceeded to pull boxes out of the fire pit and chew them up all over the yard. I called the guy who owns the pup. He actually lives on the highway and is not part of our covenants. He was all cheerful until I mentioned his dog - I think he thought I was calling to tell him it was killed on the highway. When I tell him it is at our house and what it has been up to his response is, "I guess I need to start tying him up." Gee, do ya think? :{ Last week when dh and dks were trying to play football in the backyard the pup was jumping all over them and they had to come in rather than play. Anyway, I got brave and asked the guy to pay for the ruined scarecrow - it was $25 and brand new!! He said he would, but I won't hold my breath. When he called the pup to come home it started running towards him and then circled back to our house like he was confused as to where he even lived and like he didn't want to leave us?? ?( Poor thing. :( Another dog that used to be here all of the time was killed a few weeks ago on the highway - I think that guy finally learned and has his other pup at home more. Why does it have to take something drastic for these people to get a clue?
Anyone else deal with other people's pets? I don't want to be the neighborhood b*tch, but, I just wish people would take care of their dogs and respect their neighbors....without me having to tell them they they are rude.
Phew! That felt great! Thanks for letting me vent and for reading my mini version of a book if you got this far! LOL!

I hear ya! I feel like saying to people who let their dogs use the bathroom in my or other's yards "how'd ya like ME to come take a dump on YOUR grass?!!!" But, of course, I don't.
I can understand your frustration - and good for you for calling the owner and asking him to pay for the scarcrow!! Good job!
Let us know what happens!

I completely understand. I'm not fond of dogs in the first place, but it's especially irriating to deal with neighbor's dogs.
We even have to keep our dogs penned up here on the farm so they don't venture over and chase the cows or pigs.
Hope the guy keeps it tied up from now on.

He came over and paid!!! I can't believe it. After I called I saw him outside with his son and dog....and the dog was back on our deck....I think it was good for him to see how the dog immediately heads to our house. He apologized and was really nice about it. Still can't believe I called or asked for the $, but I am tired of it.

Good for you for standng up for your self.
I am a dog lover, but you are right, if ya wanted one you would have one. My neighbors German Shepard was over here last summer alot8o Scared the life out of me when I got out of my car and it charged at me from behind and knocked me down. I'm sure he just wanted to play but it was scary. I had to say something to them.
People should take care of their own pets!

I don't know if I posted this or not, but about three weeks ago, I had the sherriff's office at my house because of my neighbor's dogs. The lady that moved in next door has about 25 dogs. She tries to keep them in a pen (sort of). Well the other morning, I heard something under my house. I went to see what it was and three dogs came charging at me. I called the law. They came out but said that there wasn't a leash law at the time so there was nothing that they could do, but within three minutes of the officer standing in my yard, he was surrounded with about 8-10 of them. Three of the dogs lunged at him. They did convince the lady to let them take 14 of the dogs, but still. Last night I had to walk outside and get my friend. One of the dogs had went after her and her daughter. She climbed on the hood of her car. I am going to call the law again tomorrow and see if there is anything else they can do. A leash law passed in our county about four days after they came after me, so maybe there is something they can do now. It is irritating to have to deal with someone else's dogs.
I hope things get better for you Karla. Good for you for standing up for yourself.

Oh gosh, Leigh - 25 dogs??!!! They would never last here!!
A girl in our neighborhood had, I think, 5 dogs and animal control made her get rid of at least 2 of not 3 of them --- they don't put up with stuff like that.
Most of the people in our sub-division keep their dogs confined to their own yards. The people across the highway are another story. They have big dogs that are always coming into our yard. And of course Precious tries to defend her turf. She's eaten the mini blinds in the den and the dining room at least once. Twice for the ones in the den. Maybe I should try and get the owners to pay to replace them. Like that will happen. Glad you stood up and got the money for the destroyed property.

I won't let Minnie out unless she has her harness on. It is really sad too because a lot of times when she hears the dogs barking next door, she doesn't want to go out! :(

They have had over 14 complaints on this lady, so she keeps moving, but like I said there wasn't a leash law in the county until a few weeks ago. One of the problems that the animal control is having is that they can't catch her dogs. They are not tame dogs. They like to pack up and go hunting when they get out of her make shift pen. This woman leaves the doors open on her house and lets the dogs walk in and out as they please. The animal control people told me that at her other house before she moved here, there was feces everywhere and fleas. (go figure) She had to leave three at her other house because they couldn't be caught.
I could write a book on the neighbors I had.
First neighbors- played music really loud. (not too bad)
Second neighbors- Very very trashy people. Would just throw their trash in the yard. Had garbage everywhere. Never mowed their grass. I guess the grass was covering the trash.
Third neighbor- Ran off to Russia to be with her boyfriend she met on the Internet, and had only known for 6 months.
Now we are on our fourth neighbor in only one year.

Wow... I can't believe that she can even have that many dogs. Where i live... no more than 3 pets (dogs/cats) per household. At least they took some of them... and now that their is a leash law perhaps they can start nabbing the rest of them and hauling them away too. Yuck... (gag) about her former house, how awful! Gotta wonder how people can live like that! Gross!!! I know it's nothing that I'd want to live next door to. I'd keep complaining and eventually maybe something can permanently be done.
I live on a corner lot where a lot of people walk their dogs. For some reason... my yard seems to be the place where all the dogs suddenly seem to NEED/want to unload. Ugh! I LOVE dogs (and have my own) so it's not that I don't like dogs. Because of my doing day care... I make it a point to pick up after her right away after she's done it so I know there will be no nasty/stinky accidents with the poo and the kids
shoes/bodies. ugh! 8o Well... there is nothing worse than having to go out and pick up after someone elses BIG dog's crap. Some people carry bags and pick up after themselves while other's just don't seem to care. Another thing I notice is that when/if it's a little dog on the run, nobody really seems to notice/care that much, but when it's a BIG dog... everyone is up in arms. LOL It's not often when we ever see a dog on the loose anyway... but IMHO big or small I don't always like or appreciate it. I can understand it happening once in a while... but when it's a constant thing... I'll usually have something to say about it.
Good for you for calling him and telling him about his dog... and I'm glad that he did the right thing in paying you the $$ he owed you for the damage that his dog did. Now let's hope that he'll start tying it up.
Good luck!
Diane...

Diane - Don't people carry a baggie along to pick up their dog's poop when they are on walks? Here I think they have to. How frustrating. :\ I also think there is a law here limiting the number of dogs people can have.

I think all of this is terrible!! People here are VERY considerate with their dogs, the only ones that are loose are the ones that are extremely well trained and stay on their own properties. I would NEVER let our dog out without us right there, he's 95lbs and although we think he's a pussycat he could appear big and intimidating to someone else.
As for picking up after him, ALWAYS!!! I actually saw a man walking a little poodle on our property one day and he was just walking away from the poop, so I went out the front door and said "oh, did you need a bag?" He blushed and thanked me :newwink:

You're "suppose" to... some do but most don't. 8o I think it takes a lot of guts to allow your dog to poop all over someone's yard and then just walk away leaving it sit there for me to pick up. 8o 8o I should do what Kathy T did and go out and offer them a baggie. Maybe then they'll realize that I don't enjoy or appreciate their dog's crap being left in my yard. :)

I think there is some type of law here which states how many dogs/cats you are allowed to have in one home.
We also have a very strict law where you must scoop your poop or you will receive a fine if caught. I always pick up Bailey's poo....think it is disgusting if people leave it :\
