Okay everyone, the time is about upon me that I begin my internship. Some of you teachers out there, please tell me what to expect. I will be interning in a fifth grade classroom beginning the beginning of January, so what do I need to do to prepare?

PS. I am sure that I will be racking everyone's brain for ideas once I begin too, so look out! :biglaugh:

Sorry I can't help either. Student taught in kdg. I did some practicum work in 4th. I liked that age group. Very sharp and independent. A lot of co-operative learning going on at that level. Our 5th is departmentalized. They switch classes 4 times. Is that your case, or are they self-contained? Good luck. You'll do fine. Surely they won't "throw you to the wolves" on your first day!

Internship? is that the same as student teaching? If so,
what I remember, from 14 years ago, was that the first week you observed and acted mostly as an aide. Then gradually you took over teaching each subject area. Before you know it you are teaching everything. My supervising teacher gave me the last week of mine to observe in other grade levels in the school and even visit other schools.

Relax! I'm sure it will go smoothly. The best advice I can give you, which my supervising teacher told me, is take notes of any ideas you can for future use.

As for ideas for 5th grade--my son is in that grade now. I'll have to take closer notice of what things he does.

Good luck!!
