Dd has strep.
Neither dh nor I have ever had it, so had no idea the symptoms, etc. (figured a sore throat would go along with it, but not always, I learned)
Took her to the dr. and by all the symptoms I explained, he was surprised to find out she has strep - he looked in her mouth and started laughing, b/c he didn't expect to see all those red bumps -- this is where the bad mommy part comes in - HAD I looked inside her mouth, I would have seen them and possibly not made her suffer more than she has........ :bawling: I felt terrible for not even thinking about looking in her mouth.
But, she's on drugs now and should be better tomorrow - now, let's take bets to see how long it takes dh to come down with it and have to go to bed until he's well!!

You are not a bad mommy. If you are dh have never had it, of course you didn't think or know what to look for. Plus you did the best you could at keeping her comfortable. You gave her motrin or tylenol and let her sleep. YOU are NOT a BAD MOMMY!!! Don't be so hard on yourself.

Oh honey, don't beat yourself up. If she wasn't complaining of a sore throat I wouldn't have guessed strep either. I have had it a million times and I really thought you had to have a sore throat to have it. 8o And, when I have had it I have had white bumps not red. LOL! You're not a bad mommy. You did a great job taking care of her all wknd and you got her in today!! Hope she is feeling better soon!!! :)
Heck...dd had strep 3 times last year (first time ever) and had different symptoms every time!!!!!

OH! Forgot to mention the scarlet fever she's got going on too!! :\
I can't believe all the different symptoms this bugger can have!!
And, once you get it, are you more prone to keep getting it??
I need to read up on it and find out what I can - it's a wierd thing....

How is she feeling? What are the scarlet fever symptoms?
I'm not sure about being more prone to strep once you get it. ?( We've all had it here, but it's been years for me. I know one of my boys had it a couple times one year, but now has been fine. knock on wood :tinysmile
Hope you guys are all hangin' in there.
Scarlet fever can be caused by the strep virus...it's basically undiagnosed strep. http://encarta.msn.com/encnet/refpages/refarticle.aspx?refid=761563948
I don't think once you get it that it makes you more prone. DS never had it till last year (age 12), dd got it for the first time last year too (what was it about last year?? LOL) and did have a few bad go rounds with it, but none (knock knock) this year.

I know I would never think to check my child's throat if she wasn't complaining it was sore. Thanks for telling us what happened. Now I actually might think to do it. Good thing you took her to the dr when you did. I hope she gets better real soon.

Youngest ds gets strep often. Each time he gets it, his symptoms are different.
A couple years ago he had a fever. That's it. No other symptoms  We saw the doctor, checked his mouth ...not sure if it was strep because it wasn't red. No swollen glands. He asks if he has a rash anywhere...I say no. WRONG! He lifted up his shirt and voila....the famous scarlet fever rash.
He had strep throat and scarlet fever and I had no idea. Talk about a bad mommy :\

So sorry to hear your dd has strep... but you are not a bad mommy by any means... we just went thru the same thing! I used to get it all the time when I was young, and this go around, I suffered for a week and a half, dd for about 5 days before I got us checked. There are tons of different sympoms, so it's anything but your fault. Please don't be hard on yourself... kids don't let on it's as bad as it really is most of the time... now had this been a man, he probably would have been at the ER by the evening of the day he got it
Oh honey, sorry your dd has strept...I went through it myself 5 times in one year and never had a clear symtoms...your NOT a BAD mother....come on.....your kind and caring ....just not a doctor...LOL...;) hope she is feeling better soon....
