Friday I had a teacher conference with dd preschool teacher. She recommends I send dd to private school. Unfortunately the two catholic schools in our area have wait lists of at least 50 kids and they take kids by there birthdays. Brittanys bday isn't until the end of May so she would be at the end of the list.
The other school near us is Cape Cod Academy and that is $12,000 a year!! For kindergarten!!!! So we need to win the lottery. That school accepts by test scores or if a sibling is enrolled.
So anyone know the numbers????
WOW!!!!!!! Do they do financial aid or scholarships?
Why did they suggest your dd go to private school..what aren't THEY doing right????

I'm not sure if they do financial aide I have to check.
dd is in a private preschool right now. None of the public schools have preschool in them here except for low income students. DD is very advanced for a 4 year old. Her teacher is afraid she is going to be bored in school and turn her off to the whole idea. She does ds schoolwork and he is in 1st grade. In preschool they have been able to keep her interested by challenging her alot more than the others. But as I've learned with ds the public school doesn't do this well.
So what we are thinking of doing is putting her in dance classes, art classes, (she loves anything to do with art), and get her a tutor one day a week during school who can gear lessons just for her and what she is interested in. And hopefully this will help. Plus sending her all the way to Hyannis or Falmouth for kindergarten is quite a hike from our house.
We thought of homeschooling but she needs to be with other kids. She is a little standoffish, (or snotty) however you want to put it with kids her own age. She would rather be with the 6 and 7 year olds so she needs the social interaction.

Does your public school have a gifted/talented program? Could you bump her up a grade?

Our school system is just now implementing a gifted program. It is a slow process. They are starting at the higher grades. I don't want to put her in 1st grade since she is only 4 years old and won't be 5 till the end of May. Our school system has preschool, kindergarten and transitional 1st grade in one school. Then they split up the kids to go to there neighborhood school for 1st - 4th. And as I've learned this year with my 1st grade son they sure learn alot of bad things from the 3rd and 4th grade kids.
I am planning a meeting with the principal to give them a heads up with her. Maybe we can put her in the transitional 1st grade class? We'll see.
