This weekend was a little windy and a gust came through, picked up our glass patio table, tossed it on it's side and it shattered in 1000 little pieces. I thought something was flying through the window by the sound it made. What a mess to clean up. I don't think we can go out barefoot all summer without fearing some unfound little piece. Anyone ever had this happen?
I am thinking about going out and buying an inexpensive "plastic" type table.
I'm glad no one was hurt! I was house sitting for my boss one summer when a gust of wind picked up his patio table by the umbrella and tossed it in the pool! Nothing broke but it sure was a pain to haul that thing out! I wonder if you could use a shop vac to vacuum your grass, LOL?! I would hate not being able to go bare footted out side in the summer. :0)
That is scary, I would hate for you or your family to cut your feet....have you thought about making some red food colored water, and pouring in on the grass, it will stick to the glass and you could then see it....maybe put some corn starch in the water too so its thicker....good luck....I have a plastic table, and the umbrella is sepratate.....I have lots of wind here too....

We had this happen when we were taking care of our neighbor's house last summer. Their table had just been sitting in the porch, (no wind or anything) and I was totally shocked one day when I looked out and there it was... glass everywhere! It had shattered in these tiny little pieces all over the place... almost like it had exploded! We took the shop vac and cleaned it all up. That seemed to do a pretty good job. We also had it happen to our own patio table, and we had a VERY hard time finding somebody who could replace the glass. They almost wanted as much for a new piece as we paid for the entire set... Ugh!!! We ended up tossing it and getting a whole new set. Good luck with the clean up!
bye...
YIKES!!!!
Have had it happen during a hurricane...what a pain to clean up!

Never had a patio table, but I imagine that it would be a pain to clean up all that glass. Glad no one was hurt. Hope you get a new one soon. :)

wow!! That is alot of broken tables!! I was surprised by the response here. Dh did get the shop vac out and suck it all up. Other than a few pieces, it all fell on the deck. I still need to go out and take a knife or something to get inbetween the decking boards where it is lodged.
My in-laws had a broken table before and they said it was more expensive to replace the glass too! My neighbor said they sold a glassless table in a garage sale and they were surprised they got as much as they did for it. I think that is what I will do, I don't want another glass one anyway.

You may be able to replace the glass with a wood piece. Maybe decopouge/ stencil one side to look good and paint the other side with chalk. You can get chalk board paint in a can. That way the kids would have something fun yet you could have something that looks good.
Glad nobody got hurt.
