I am interested in Hands-on Activites for my first grade students in the content of Math.

I am looking for good resource books, websites, lesson plans, units, professional book readings, and etc. that will help me to become a better math teacher. I'm interest in the following content strands: number computation, geometry, measurement, probability, statistics, and algebraic ideas.

I'm also interested in improving their higher-order thinking skills in math as well.

I'm also interested in math journals. Any ideas?

Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated?

Sincere thanks,

Good Lord!! 8o :tinysmile I have a 1st grader - is that what she's going to be getting into this year??? It seems so advanced and soooo soon.
They have covered addition, subratction, number lines, and some fractions so far --- can't belive statistics. I guess it's just the intro to the subject - and at their level.

Whew - okay, I think I calmed myself down now! LOL

Probability and Statistics usually are taught in the same activity. For example, I might pose a question about "What is your favorite Candy?" We would make a bar graph about their favorite candy. They make predictions and draw conclusion about the data on the graph. It's just the content strand wording that sounds Spooky. I don't use those big words like probability and statistics but the lesson will cover the content of it.

Hope this calms your fears.

Happy New Year!
