I think we all know what we need to do to lose weight-but as Dr. Phil says- what are you holding yourself to be accountable for if you DON'T lose weight? We don't allow ourselves to accept responsiblity or consequences for not sticking to a diet.

Let's start off this new year with the correct and life long way to lose and maintain weight.

1.-Everyone needs to come up with 3 consequences and 3 rewards for sticking to your diet. Make it hurt! LOL

2. Start a food diary! Everything that goes into your mouth (including tasting food that you are cooking or crumbs off the kid's plates) should be written down to take responsibility of what you are actually eating on a daily basis. By becoming aware-you will be shocked what you pop in your mouth. Also mark how many glasses of water you drink, so you can keep track.

3. Eat whatever you want, just downsize it! I don't think any diet that takes away foods that you like will be a success for any length of time. Use a desert plate as your main plate and limit meat portions to the size of your palm and fill the rest up with veggies or side dishes.

4. Eat slowly! I for one am very guilty for wolfing down food. Try to eat your meal one small bite at a time. Try to take an 1/2 hour to eat your food with no refills and a huge glass of water with it.

5.Exercise! It doesn't matter if you don't have 30 consecutive minutes. Break it up into (3) 10 minute sessions. It all helps! Dance, do floor exercises while watching tv, power cleaning or anything that will get your heart rate up.

I truly believe this has to be a life long change of how you view and eat food. It's too easy to slip back to old habits if you have a fad diet. Anyone willing to do this with me-the right way with lifelong effects?
