Down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Talk about getting lucky. I was able to pull the outer layer off without any prep at all. Just walked up and tried pulling at a seam and it came down in full sheets. I then applied ZIF to the underneath paper layer and 15 minutes later it came down is sheets also. I would get it started at the top and it would literally crawl down the wall. Then I just wiped down the walls with the ZIF solution again to get rid of the glue, wiped off the walls with fresh water and mopped the floor and I was done. It looks like the kitchen, front hall, and entryway paper will go like this did. Not sure about the bathroom or dining room. The family room is going to be rough I suspect. It seems to be a cheaper paper.

There is a link to a pic at the bottom of the page.

Thanks for the ideas and a special thanks goes out to the previous owners for putting up expensive paper and having it done professionally. I called the place today where they purchased the paper and who installed it. The owner seemed a bit bummed that it was coming down. I was shocked but he remember the house and street, the layout, and the fact that the curtains matched the paper. (makes me wonder if he has any other clients LOL) He reminded me of the quality of the paper as well. I assured him that I agreed that the paper and the install looked very high quality. He let me off the hook by saying "If its not your style then its just not your style". It was fun talking to him. Found out why some of the rooms were done as they were and that he did the prev. owner's mother's house too. Found out how his company got its name etc. also.

Think I will bask in the success of the day and hope for such luck when I start the kitchen either tommorrow or next weekend.

This is a bit blurry but you will get the idea of what was up. Hope noone has the same pattern and is offended...I don't think I could even sell this stuff to Hildi

When you click on the url it will not work. Delete out these two strings from the address window then it will:

ROFL! to be berated by the installer is quite funny!!
glad it came off so easy, now don't you feel badly about procrastinating so long? ;)
are you going to re wallpaper or paint? if you are going to paper again, prime the walls first and it will make the wallpaper removal the next time very easy, regardless of the price of the paper.
and the link didn't work

Yahoo Jeff!! :yippee: ROFL about the installer!! Maybe he hasn't been too busy the past few years? ;) How long did he think a person should keep the same paper up anyway? :crazyroll?

The link didn't work for me either. :\

He actually is the designer, he just subs the actual install of the paper.

I do feel bad for putting it off for so long. It was really easy. Now I am glad I am just doing a bit at a time or it would really get frustrating. Paint for sure. Think it works better for resale.

The link almost works now, you just have to click on it then when it errors just delete the following strings from the address window

%20
I'm not sure why those strings are getting added. The message board is choking on it and adding those strings for some reason.

Go to where you type in website addresses after you click on my link. You will see a bunch of letters/numbers/symbols that start out like this

http://photos.msn.com/viewing/album...

there are two sequences of letters/numbers/symbols that need to be deleted from that long line

look for %20 next to each other and delete the three characters
look for
next to each other and delete the four characters

Move your cursor over so the link is no longer highlighted and hit return. It should take you to the correct link. Let me know if it doesn't.

to be honest, I don't know if I want to work this hard just to see pics of your torn down wallpaper! LOL

That wallpaper is not quite neutral enough for me. I have a very hard time committing to wallpaper. I think I'm just a paint person. I want to try some of those sponge paint, artistic, creative ideas I keep reading about in other posts.

Do it..paint isn't a commitment at all, but don't use a sponge..do something fun like crumpled paper, a feather duster or wadded up rags!

I just may. Is crumpled paper really more fun than a sponge??
Seriously, I've been looking around here and getting a little bored. I just don't want to sink a lot of effort into re-decorating at this point. I'm too up in the air about everything.

But believe me, you are going to guide me every step of the way when I'm ready! And, I will appreciate it!!

It was in the back hallway. Keep in mind the exact same pattern is our curtains and valence in the family room, the valence over the breakfast nook door and the valence over the window in the kitchen. And with that pattern in the family room they have a slight floral pattern wallpaper from the ceiling 1/2 way down then a blue wallpaper the rest of the way down. In teh hall next to the paper you saw there is another heavily patterned wall paper next to it along with the slight floral pattern in the familty room. In the kitchen you have the slight floral pattern joined with a pattern that is even busier than the valence in the kithen that is the same as the pic you just saw.

I think the paper gives a cooler more up to date look..sponges can be very dated looking. Get yourself some white poster board and just practice..take out some saran wrap, rags, paper towels and just PLAY!!!!

Cathy - you don't have to be so nice. I took it down, I'm not putting it up LOL.

Ann,

I think my biggest gripe with all the paper is that I can stand in the kitchen and without taking a step I can see six different wallpaper patterns. One subtle, One heavy strips, One slightly patterned, the other three heavily patterned like the one you saw.

Thank you, Jeff. Noone ever calls me nice--probably because I'm not! LOL
I could see that wallpaper in someone's designer house, with beautiful furniture and formal atmosphere. But it is sooo not me!

It's funny...I'm a preschool person. We do process art--using lots of materials to paint and create. I just never thought of bringing it home! I like it, and I've seen some really cool things. Crushed plastic grocery bags rubber-banded to straws is a classic!

Congrats Jeff!! You are so lucky! I've never seen wallpaper come off so in tact before.

When we stripped our bathrooms it was a nightmare. The installer did not prime the wall - they glued the paper to the drywall........ what a mess. I took chunks out of the wallboard getting all that s**t off. :{

I've been there!! I think there's a special place in hell for contractors who paper right over the sheet rock without priming it!
