I have a friend that sells stuff on ebay. She says its fun and exciting to see the bids come in.I also know that you have to pay ebay a small percentage of the item you sell. Not reaaly sure how much it is though.

A couple of years ago, I sold some beanie babies on Ebay. They do charge a posting fee usually (and sometimes a percentage). I happened to luck out when I posted, and there was no charge at all :)
Look through the write ups of the items being sold. Make sure you say that the seller pays for shipping (or list a specific shipping price).
I did well with it (but I didn't make a fortune :( It was just for fun)

I haven't, but my brother sells stuff all the time. He has a policy he puts with each item he sells... said he hasn't had any problems so far. One tip - for the shipping charges, call it Shipping and Handling and a dollar or so to recoup the cost of posting your item on eBay. People can't dispute the charges as long as you don't simply call it shipping. They can look up what the shipping would cost. Also, you can check the usps website for shipping charges/weights/locations. He also said to start the bid low, but think about the least you'd be willing to take for an item.
We just put a whole bunch of dh's military stuff up on Ebay. We made really good money off the items, but shipping is a pain in the butt. Not only are you trying to find boxes and packing all the time, but you are at the post office a lot. We also tried selling books of dh's on half.com and after the first book sold, we decided it was a nightmare trying to find packages to ship those in without losing money on the deal. We took the rest off the market. LOL
If you have some high priced items or high desire items to sell, then it is worth it. But, if you are selling a bunch of little things that run under $10 and then there is almost too much work to be worth it.
