Some little rookie MP stopped me on base today and gave me a speeding ticket. I was going 42 in a 30mph lane. I saw him and the speed limit sign at the same time. I admit I was speeding, but there was no limit sign until 1/5 mile down the road. I asked him about this and he said "Ma'am, there is a sign at the entrance of every base road that states its 30mph unless otherwise stated." I have been to base about three times here and to read a sign that states this 4 miles from where I got stopped miffs me.

My question is...Should I go to FEDERAL court over this and try and state the fact that I have only been there 3 x's, my dh is deployed for 4 1/2 month and basically give a sob story?

Has anyone gotten out of a ticket before eventhough they WERE guilty of speeding? This is my first offense, and it irks me they are going to take 4 pts of my license.

What are they taking from your license?

Suck up and pay the ticket..you were wrong. If your kids said "well, I didn't know that I wasn't supposed to do that everytime" you would still punish them!

I agree with Ann.

You can go to traffic school here (all day Saturday class where they talk about speeding and stopping distance, etc.). By attending the class, you can have up to three points removed and that should help with your insurance. The points aren't automatically removed after you attend, though...you still have to go to traffic court and ask the judge to remove the points.

I agree, just pay it. Ignorance of the law is no excuse. (or a sign 4 miles away) You said yourself you were speeding.

I think you misunderstood (or I didn't explain it correctly). The road that I speeded on was just changed to 30mph three weeks ago. It used to be 40 mph. So I didn't see the new limit until it was too late. Since I haven't been to base since a month ago, I thought this was unfair.

I talked to the MP help desk and the Sargent was very sympatheic and said there was just no way to get rid of the ticket without going to court. The good news is the points are only taken from my driving priviledges ON base and does not have effect on my actual NYS driver's license. WHEW... He thinks I have a good case IF I want to take the time and go to court, drive to Colorado Springs and find a babysitter for ds. I'll probably pay the fine and call it a lesson.

The good news is, I gave the Sarg. the name of the MP and he is going to give him a whack on the back of the neck for issuing a ticket to such "a kick" (me) LOL That made my weekend! LOL

Gee. thanks for all the support ladies.;)

OOPS! got caught eh? Better slow down.
Glad to here the points are restricted to driving on base and not everywhere. You might as well just pay the ticket. By the time you pay a babysitter, it will likely cost more than the ticket did in the first place and you might end up paying it as well. I don't blame you for being upset if the speed change is just new. They need to post it where it is more noticiable if there is going to be a change.

Amy/CO, I am sorry that you got caught. I too would be steaming mad if that hapened to me. I don't know how I would handle it though. Let us know the outcome okay?
