Ds2 has had 3 nosebleeds today 8o ...which I'm attributing to the dry weather (winter...etc). Does this sound right??? I'm trying not to over-react...because the nosebleeds stop pretty quickly. Any advice?

Yes, it does make sense. I get them too, when our weather gets particularly dry. I also get them in the spring, when I'm taking antihistamines for my seasonal allergies. The only suggestion I have is to line his nostrils with lotion or vaseline several times a day, and especially after every nose blow, and to try to only blow his nose if he absolutely has to. Sorry I'm not more help, but I hope that works for ya.

I had a child in my class who would have constant nose bleeds...really bad ones. We never found any thing that really helped...just kind of had to wait it out. Maybe try a humidifier in his room at night. Sorr I'm not more help.

One of the kids that I take care of was constantly having nosebleeds. We were sure it was from the dry air... so dh turned the humidifier on and she hasn't had any since. Vasoline will also help... anything to keep it moist. Good luck!

ds gets nosebleeds all the time real bad ones. It is allergy related and dry weather. The school nurse called one day and said "you may want to get that checked it could be something serious" so I did it was nothing. So if it continues I'd just mention it to the doctor. ds is also allergic to mold so a humidifier is the worse thing for someone allergic to mold. Just learned that this year. So I also do the vaseline only at night though because he hates it. And he's 8 and much stronger than me.

Youngest ds sometimes gets nosebleeds. He definately is more prone to them when the air is dry. He also seems to get them when he gets a bad cough. I think as long as they stop pretty quickly, that everything is normal.

Thanks, everyone! Whew...I'm not alone on this one! ;) :) So far, so good today! No nosebleeds! I put some Vasaline in his nose last night, and again before school today. No...he didn't love me for it...but hey, the nose isn't bleeding either. ;) Will try it again tonight...I know the house is dry because the hardwood floors have small gaps (which is common in the dry winter months). I hate to humidify too much, because I'm weird about mold, also. Hoping the simple "lotioning of the nose" does the trick! Thanks again!

Probably is the dry air. I get them sometimes in the winter too. My nose hurts in the winter. I sleep with a humidifier in the winter which definitely helps me. Our school nurse told me to "just gob" vaseline on Q-tip and coat the inside of my nose as well. While an unpleasant feeling, it feels much better than a painfully dry nose.

That's the "technique" I'm using with ds. However, he's 6, and not too pleased with "goopy" stuff being put in his nose! He makes some pretty funny faces, though!

Mary, I was at the store today, in the pharmacy section, and I saw they had some nasal sprays especially for dry nose problems-- mostly saline and such. Thought I would tell you, and you could try it out on ds...:)
