OK, I skim on this board (and others lately), so forgive me if this has already been discussed, but does anyone belong to Curves (http://www.curvesinternational.com/)? I'm going to visit/tour one near me on Tuesday morning and would like feedback (good and bad) from people who actually go there before they do the hard sell. ;)
TIA!
I have heard really good things about them, especially for people who are just starting out exercising/weight training. Go fo it!!! I think it's a pretty good value too.

My cousin goes and loves it - says it is ideal for her. My sil just joined and I told her I want to know what she thinks of it. Sometimes they have offers where the sign up fee is waived, so wait for a deal like that. :) Also, if you go on vacation you can get a guest pass and go to one in the city you are visiting if you so choose.

I posted about this a little while ago. I joined Curves about 8 months ago. In the beginning I went regularly 3-4 times a week. It's a great workout, and the fact that it is 30 minutes is ideal. I have had a really difficult time getting back into the routine of going there since Christmas time. I'm hoping to get back into it.
It's great because you can join at one location and go to any Curves location in the world.
Let me know what you think Mickey :)

Thank you, Guys!
They said if you have the yearly membership you can go to any Curves around the world, but the month to month membership only enables you to use the ones in your state.
Looked at the franchise info at the website (not interested in that--just curious since I know someone starting up one in PA) and they mentioned a sign-up fee of $149 (but said that there's usually a discount to $49 when they first open?). And $29/month? I'll ask about specials/trial memberships, etc.
Thanks, again! I'll let you know how it goes!

Didn't Kacee post about this, too and say hers was $10 a month?

My sil said the one near her recently had the sign up fee waived altogether for some special and then $31/month when you commit to a year. And, a friend has told me that sometimes here they offer a week free to see if you like it. Let us know what you find out. :)
I have heard good things about it too....let us know what you think....:walkin: :wiggle:

Thank you for the info!
I'm thinking they're all different. My cousin called a facility in PA and they said that they offer a discounted Service Fee (sign-up fee)--it's usually $149 and they were offering 60% off--IF you sign-up at your initial visit/tour. If you leave and come back, it's $149 and you can have a free week trial membership, but then when you sign up it's $149.
I called the one I'm visiting in the morning and asked them about the fees (they did NOT want to discuss it, but I pushed the issue) and it's 50% off if you sign up on the spot, so it will be $75. And $29/month if you commit to a year and have the monthly payments drafted from your checking account (I think Kacee posted about that).
Anyway...think I'll end up going for it. I just HATE these places, though. I've been ripped off by a gym and they do the hard sell, etc. I'm not looking forward to this, but I'm hoping I'll like the actual workout and keep it up (I've joined places in the past and I'm gung-ho for a couple of months and gradually stop going). Need to post here so you guys can yell at me and make me go! ;) LOL!
DO IT!!! I have really only heard good things about them, even if the prices vary. IMHO, the only way you can get ripped off is if you don't go.

I joined and I love it so far! (Today was my second day!) It feels great!
When I first went in, they said the service fee was $75 (50% off the regular fee of $149). But when I went back later that morning to sign the papers and actually join, they said they just started a new special, so the fee was $59 instead of $75, so that was cool! $29/month with a monthly bank draft and one year contract or $39/month if you go for the month-to-month membership. I went for the one-year membership.
Now to keep it up and make it part of my life for the rest of my life! Think I'll be able to do that because I go at 6:30 a.m. and there's nothing that could possibly interfere with that time! LOL! Unless dh is out of town...need to work on a back-up plan for that.
Do they have child care?
That is so great, keep up the good work!!!
I am glad you like it... I have two neighbors who say nothing but great things about Curves.... Sounds like your enjoying yourself with this new routine.....:wiggle:

Howdy,
I just found this post. Sorry that I couldn't answer you sooner!!
I just joined last month. They were having a special so the initial fee was waved. ( I had to bring in a bag of groceries. They were doing their annual food drive. The deal was to join for free and bring in a bag of groceries.)
My monthly fee is $31 a month with a direct draw from my checking account.
I have gone about 9 times pre vacation. I lost 3 lbs the first week. I know that after this cruise that I have gained it all back.
I wanted to go today, but we still have jet lag - plus the daylight savings times. My laundry is waiting to be folded and I did have to work today. Let's just say that I am bushed!!! I will go tomorrow and Thurs. and Sat.
They do say it is better if you let your muscles rest a day. And to go every other day. I usually shoot for M, W, F, and Sat.
The only draw back for my Curves is that the hours are very limited. I would love for them to expand the hours.
Mickey = Would you like to start a weekly Curves post???? Maybe we could cheer each other on????
Good luck to you!!!!

Thanks, guys!
Ann, no daycare. There's actually a sign on the door that says, "We love kids! But this is YOUR time--please leave your precious little ones with dad or grandma when you come to work out!" (Works for me! LOL!) My friend is looking after MB for me while I go this week since dh can't, so that's awesome.
I'm loving it! It feels great!!!
Glad you enjoyed your cruise, Kacee! Sounds heavenly!
I'll go for a weekly post to keep us motivated! Are you going tomorrow Kacee? Marla...have you started back yet? I'm going M, W, F. The hours are limited, but work for me. No weekend hours at all, but they open at 6 a.m.
