View Full Version : What do your kids to after school?
just wondering if you all have routines you follow with your kids everyday after school?
DD comes in, has a snack, watches about 30 minutes of tv and MUST do her homework before play/practice ect. She gets too distracted otherwise.
DS isn't home till after 5 or 6 3 days a week. He likes to do his homework at night after dinner and has always been very good about pacing himself. In fact when he was dd's age, he actually said to me "I need to play when I get home. I promise I will do homework after dinner" and he has always kept that promise.

My dks don't have homework yet, so for now they come home, we talk about their day, and they (or we) play, read books, do a craft, or whatever. :)

They come home, have a snack and do their homework.
Sometimes they will go to a friend's house after school (or a friend will come here). If that is the case, they will do their homework after dinner.

Dd does homework right after school unless the girl down the street shows up before she has a chance to get to it. Sometimes they'll do it together, but I've pretty much put the kiabosh on that - dd gets careless about handwriting, spelling.
If she plays first, she'll do it between the time the kid leaves and dinnertime.

It would always depend upon what we had planned for our evening. If we weren't going anywhere... they'd grab a snack and then go outside to run/play. It was kind of different for my kids because when they came home from school the house was seldom quiet... (full of day care kids) and the noise was very distracting to them. It worked best if they waited until after dinner... then it was much quieter and they could concentrate better on their work. If they had a certain program that they wanted to watch on tv though... they'd have to get their homework done before they could watch it. Sometimes that meant doing it right after school. A lot of times I'd have the other schoolers sit and do their homework too... that way their parents didn't have to deal with it later at home. :) I was lucky that they were always very good about doing their homework.

Dks go to our school's on-site afterschool child care program for an hour after school (gives me time to clean up...get ready for the next day, etc). So they get a snack and playtime there. When we get home, they do their homework before anything else...(ds1 rarely has any (3rd grade), but ds2 (1st grade) has daily reading and math). No t.v., game cube, computer, etc until all homework is finished. I usually check in here...that's my "homework".;)

It depends on the day....If there are DCK's here they either go outside(depending on the weather) and play or play in their room...
THen they have a small snack and homeowrk is done right after dinner while I am cleaning the kitchen...Sometimes it is done right after school especially on Fridays that way we dont have to worry about it all weekend.
During ball season, it's homework in the car, on the run. Now that that's over, ds unwinds after school with TV or computer. He ususally does his homework sometime after dinner before bed. Once when grades slipped we took away the computer and homework had to be done right away. Now he's back on track. He definitely did not like doing without the computer and does a much better job of allowing enough time for homework/studying.
