View Full Version : Can't tear paper off
Is it just me, or is everyone having a hard time tearing the paper off crayola crayons these days. When the point is gone, my kids can't tear away any paper. Then they bring them to me and ask me to do it. I end up mutilating the darn things trying to get the paper off.
I remember it used to be that the crayons would slip out of the paper. I need a happy medium. I certainly have better things to do than spend time trying to get the paper off so the kids can use them. :tearhair:

I'm sorry that you're having problems getting the paper off the crayons... but personally, I'm SO glad that they started making the paper thicker so it can't be torn off as easily as it use to be. I had a few dck's who... instead of coloring, would just sit and tear all the paper off the crayons. Ugh!! When we were all done "coloring" all I'd find under their chairs was a bunch of paper and naked crayons. LOL Kids! :)

Just bring those crayons over to my two year olds. LOL! My dck don't color either, they just sit and tear the paper off of the crayons too.

Yeah! I agree about the crayon wrappers...they are tougher to "peel". Now, why does it seem like the glue bottle clog up more easily these days, also??? LOL. I mean, I am constantly picking the glue out of someone's glue lid to get it to flow. (My kids are pretty good about closing glue bottles, so I don't think that is the problem.) My fingernails are a lost cause. I also HATE "no run Elmers glue" and that "gel" glue. That stuff doesn't "run" alright....not even out of the bottle when you want it to! PHEW...listen to me complain! :)
:biglaugh: MaryL, been there, been there, been there. It's funny how those little things about our jobs are the ones that drive us crazy.
I agree with the naked crayons of a couple of years ago, but now the paper sticks too much. It creates too much "down" time, because literally none of my kids can get the paper off. Crayola give me a happy medium, please.

I WISH my glue containers would have a "flow" problem... LOL Whenever my kids work on an art project we end up with these HUGE piles of glue squeezed on their papers. LOL I tell them... you only need a "little" bit... yeah, sure. LOL We did a project once and it took the glue on them almost 3 days to dry. :) They were also VERY heavy. LOL :D I also have a problem with the glitter containers with the shaker applications. The glitter just won't come out... and I end up having to open the top... and then I have glitter EVERYWHERE. LOL By the time were done working on our projects the table/floor AND the kids are usually very decorated/colorful. LOL Nothing ever seems to work the way they're suppose to. :D
bye...
Diane, I had a little bit of luck telling my kids we need to have "raindrops" not puddles of glue. I often put glue out on flat dishes with a craft stick for application. It slows them down some. Then I put squeeze bottles in my water table so they can squirt away, and I don't run short of glue. Supplies are getting a little sparse as we approach the end of the year.

Oh yeah....those glitter bottles are a nightmare....Wouldn't want to be the custodian on "glitter" day! LOL...... For gluing, I always remind the children..."Ooey Gooey....only one drop of Gluey"!

LOL... Cute! Somebody else suggested letting them use Q-tips for the glue instead of just letting them squit it out all over the place. LOL I think they just like watching the glue pile out... cause they KNOW they're not suppose to. LOL I tell myself that as long as they're having fun it's well worth the mess and all the clean up, but sometimes as I'm cleaning it all up... I'm sometimes having a hard time convincing myself that it REALLY was all worth it. LOL I know it is, but I guess that's why sometimes I try to limit just how much glue/glitter we actually need to use for what projects. LOL

I agree the children pick the paper off anyway so after working with children for some many years I started wetting the paper and taking it off all the new packs immediately. This gets costly so I recycled my crayons by melting them down and filling little tart cups.
I also cheat with the glue I buy one large jug put a bit of glue in baby food lids and they paint the glue on their paper. This uses less glue than you would think.
