Dh and I were just talking and he told me that he mowed the lawn by himself when he was 7! 8o I couldn't believe it!
How old do you think a kid should be to mow the lawn?

Hard to say exactly. That's one of the few chores that depends on strength, coordination, and height. I'd say 7 is too young for all but the rotary (non-motor) type (and I'm not sure they'd do a beautiful job! LOL). My girls started at about 11 or 12 (and stopped at around 13..... which had more to do with attitude than size OR age!).
I really kind of like it---noone talks to me; I can think; and someone else has to cook dinner!!!
Never having done it myself! LOL I think my brother started at maybe 9??? He did work for my dad at 7 picking up bricks at his contruction sites.

I just started training ds how to do the back yard this year. He's 8, 9 in July. The back is flat and no trees. But it is at a slant. If that makes any sense. I don't think he has the strenght for it yet. I don't mind doing it either I like th exercise and being outside. When I was growing up "it was not work for girls" so I never mowed till we bought the house!

I'm thinking DS was maybe 9. He still isn't allowed to do the weed wacker or edging (age 11). We've got a video of him pushing from the bottom rung (crossbar?) when he was maybe 3 with DH doing the actual work pushing the real handle. Really cute!
