I need a good idea on how to preserve my grandson's first blanket so that we can put it out for others to see.

Not sure I understand if you want to preserve the blanket in a way that it can be stored and brought out for others to see or preserved in a way that it is on display at all times.
To be stored: you could use one of those bags that you seal with your vacuum. (air tight and takes little storage space. Easy to open and show off and reseal again)
On display: Not sure how to preserve it but if it is in good enough condition could you add tabs to it and use it as a wall display, chair thorw etc. It would depend on the size, material and condition of the blanket.

If you're wanting to display it there are special keepsake display frames you can purchase at stores like Michael's (our big craft store). You could probably set up the display yourself, or take it to a framing store and having them do it.

You could use the baby's blanket as the centrepiece of a wall hanging Quilt.
