I have a question for you because I think our two sons are similar. When your ds starting talking, was it all at once or did he progressively get better? I see the lightbulb coming on into ds's head, but its hard to understand two syllable words. For example instead of "paper" he'll try and squeeze into a one syllable sound like "pa-er". Certain letter sounds he can't pronounce easy either. He'll be 3 next month and was wondering what the pattern was for your ds.
Thanks for any information. :)
Just bumping this back up to the top until you see this! :)
I know you are here-so post!!! :D
finally saw your post, sorry. Yes, ds didn't really say anything at all until around three and then he too would skip some letters in the words he did actually say. I was all worried and told by everyone to seek a therapist, but you know what...I actually had a therapist tell me that all children would benefit from speech therapy and not to worry too much about my three year old....I didn't and I never sought the therapy....he is very clear now at almost 6 and he is reading too.....I am not discouraging therapy, I think its probably helpful to everyone, we just couldn't afford it and were under the impression he would be alright without it......sorry this is so long.....sounds like he is making progress on his own and in the next few months will surprise you with his vocabulary. great news for him...... sorry I was late on responding...I am so lost here...
we must have been posint at the same time...LOL
silly girl.
Thanks! He has been making real progress in the last month. He is actually trying to say things he sees rather than pointing. What confounds me is that I bought some flash cards and he knew his shapes. I never really sat down with him and taught him this. All this brilliant information is in him, Im just waiting for him to unleash it on the world! LOL
My brother has a friend who is a speech therapist and when I go home to NY in June, she is going to access him.
Thanks for the info. It was VERY helpful!
just remember too Amy...once they start really talking...well ds never shuts up...LOL... unless he is sick. he too was so smart and just wouldn't speak. just pointed. I think he was around three or three and ahalf when he just took off. and it was amazing. Congradulations on his success. and thats wonderful about having a speech therapist in the family. have a great day.

Just had to butt in here LOL! You're right - a child with a language delay (not saying your son has one) is not an unitelligent child. Most of the time we don't know what causes a language disorder. I know we Moms tend to really beat ourselves up when it comes to our own children, so I just wanted to encourage you. Let us know how the eval turns out.
Thanks Donna! I truly believe its all in there, but he hasn't shown any sign of wanting to talk until recently. I'll let you know what the therapist says.
How is dh's job doing?

Well he survived the first layoff. He's not as concerned as he was a few weeks ago, but he still won't let me spend any money!!! I want dining room furniture! LOL. Thanks for asking.
