I can't believe it! Only 2 weeks of class left!! Yipee!! :happydnc:
I have my research paper due Tues. and the last class will just be to get my final grade.

I was really questioning my sanity once I started the class, but think I will get at least a B (let's hope anyway)

My kids get out for the summer May 18. Our summer is already booked with boy scout camp, weeblos camp, swimming lession, vacation bible school, 4-H. I'm sure it will slip by before we know it.

Changes are on the horizon here. Dh recently found out he has to quit farming because of his bad back. He's looking into some other job leads. I really hate the 'not knowing' period. I may have to seriously look into teaching again, but I'm so enjoying being home with my kids.

So....When do the rest of you start your summer? What are you plans thus far?

(Okay, now back to finishing my research paper!) :)

Congrats on doing so well..you should be very proud of yourself!! Your summer sounds like ours. DS is going to Washington DC with the 5th grade class first week that school is out, then the kids to swim team and then he leaves for boy scout camp in Oklahoma the first week in July. We are going to Colorado end of July.

Sorry to hear about your dh. Don't ya'll live on your fil's farm? Will you have to move? Maybe this is a blessing in disguise, weren't there some frictions with working the inlaws farm? Am I remembering this right?

Congratulations on doing such of a great job with school. You should be proud of yourself! I have no idea what were going to be doing this summer. Were not taking our vacation until the middle of July this year and that seems like such of a long time from now... LOL I can't WAIT!!!! :) Were invited to Ada Mn. for one of my dh's aunt's 80th birthday... so were really looking forward to that. Dh hasn't seen or heard from his mother in over 7 months now (BIG conflict) so were kind of anxious to "see" them (not necessarily talk) and see how it goes from there. Were keeping our fingers crossed. :) Otherwise, I don't even know when the kids get out of school. LOL Youngest dd plans on finding a job for the summer so I'll miss all of her help around the house with my dc. Dh would really like me to get OUT of day care so we'll see where that goes too. As far as I know almost everything going on in my life is totally up in the air. :) It will definitely be interesting! LOL

  Bye...

Ann,
We live next to my folks and dh farms with my dad and brother. Yes, we've had our share of conflicts with them. If he can find something around here, we will get to stay in the house. I assume we will have to pay rent and maybe utilities too. I just don't do change well. I'm getting too old to move around! LOL

Sounds like you'll be kept quite busy this summer as well. Hope you have a good one! :)

Diane,
you do sound busy! How would you feel about getting out of daycare? If memory serves me correctly, you've been doing it 20+ years? That would be quite a change. Hope all goes well and you have a good summer! :)

What is your dh looking to do? Hope he finds something.

Sounds like a whole new adventure for your dh... it will definitely be something different for him after farming for so many years... also for me if I do decide to quit doing day care. I have no clue as to what I would do... maybe go back to school again. LOL Dh (and I) would like to get our house back to being "just ours" again... Kids can be awfully rough on a house and when you have as many as I have had... it's sometimes very hard to deal with. My problem is that I really love some of the kids that I have and it's going to be hard to just let them go... :bigcry: If I could I'd LOVE to find something part time... and maybe take some time just for myself for a while. I'd LOVE to wake up in the mornings knowing that my day's aren't so full. I have no idea how soon anything is going to happen... just hope it's not too far in the future. LOL

Anyway, best of luck to your dh... I hope he finds something he enjoys doing. :)

 Bye...

You've done great...congratulations.

Summer plans...both of my boys will be attending a day camp every day for 8 weeks. I was also approached to work at the camp...I will be the head of arts and crafts. I am very excited. I am in the process of figuring out my inventory and hiring staff. :bounce:

Sounds like a lot of fun Marla... It sounds like you and the boy's will definitely be keeping yourselves busy this summer... :) Are you also responsible for coming up with all of the idea's for the arts and crafts??? What age group are you looking at? I'll bet this is something your ds are really looking forward to. Have fun!!!! :yippee: :)

What is your dh looking to do? Hope he finds something.

He's looking into a couple insurance jobs. The guys who are doing it now are looking to retire. One just had a heart attack the day after dh first talked to him about it. One agency deals with life insurance and annunities. Dh would have to pass some tests to take this over. The other agency deals with home owners and automobile insurance. Not sure what, if any test, he'd have to pass for that.
If these don't work out he's looking at going back to finish his ag business degree. If he goes back to school, I will definitely have to get a job.

I know it will all work out, eventually, but it's so frustrating not knowing!

Thanks!! :)

Diane,
Best of luck in whatever you decide to do. I think it would be awfully hard to give up the dcks after this long! :)

Marla,
sounds like a fun summer!! :)

Linda...keeping my fingers crossed for your dh. Has he done insurance before?

Diane..you are thinking about quitting daycare??? You deserve some time off!!

Diane
04-23-2001, 09:56 AM
Linda/NE... my dh is an insurance agent and LOVES what he does. He doesn't write a whole lot of Life Insurance though... people either want it or they don't, and if they do they usually ask... but sometimes it's a hard subject to bring up to people. When he first got into the insurance business the company that he belonged to insisted that each agent write at least a certain amout of LIFE insurance, and if they didn't meet their quota, they were let go... and a LOT of them were constantly being let go. :( Good luck on whatever your dh decides to do. :)

I was totally SHOCKED when my dh even mentioned me quitting day care... maybe because I've been doing it for such of a long time I just figured it was something I'd always be doing. LOL Don't get me wrong... I LOVE what I do, and some of the kids, but lately I've really been feeling a little burnt out, and dh can certainly tell. That and I think he's getting a little tired of constantly having to fix everything the kids break. They can be VERY distructive... There is also so much we'd like to do with our house but can't because of the day care. I think after we sell FIL's house we'll start looking a little closer at the situation and hopefully... everything will work out for the best. I'd LOVE just to be able to get something part time though! That's MY wish! :)

bye...

Not sure when summer vac. will be starting for me, if at all. Depends on how quickly we decide to move. We want to be settled by mid-Aug. at the latest, before school starts in the fall.
I do have a few days off in June and a week in both July and Aug. plus a day here and there. We'll have to play it as it goes and see what happens

Hi Linda. Hope your paper went well. Time has sure flown by! I can't believe your kids are almost out for summer break!
Our kids go right until the 29th of June.....that seems sooooo far away yet. Dd wants to go to summer camp again (just 1 week) and our other dd would like to try it out this year too. Other than that, no concrete plans. If it is anything like last summer though, we didn't have a quiet week all summer long.

I hope things work out for your dh....it's no fun having your dh change careers (which ultimately changes ours!).

:)

I'm also glad to hear that you are able to go on your trip to see your dd and brother!!! I'll bet they are excited for your visit. I can't believe that your brother has never held your children... wow. He'll adore them, I'm sure! The beach house in Santa Barbara sounds wonderful too... what a nice friend to let you use it for a week. :) Lucky!!! :)

Linda - Pat yourself on the back! How exciting! Hope your dh finds a job soon. The not knowing is always hard for me, too.

Diane - My mom has always said the same thing about her house - so much you can't do when you work out of your home and have toys, crafts & more everywhere! Good luck with whatever you decide to do. At least you have time to think about it and have options.

Sounds like everyone has busy summers ahead! Isn't it exciting to look ahead?? :)

I think dh is done with school June 8? We will be moving this summer, dh will run a few basketball camps, dks will have swimming lessons, we have a few weddings and reunions to go to.... That's what I can think of off the top of my head - I'm sure there's lots I'm forgetting! :) I do know it will come and go like it always does before I know it! :)

No, all he's ever done is farming. I guess he worked at a bowling alley in college for a year or so and he worked at a packing plant and manufacturing plant for a few months. He's a talker and socializer though. He loves to talk on the phone and talk to people. I always joke with him that he could talk for 1/2 hr. on the phone when it was the wrong number!! LOL

Sounds like everybody has lots of plans and busy summers.

I am surprised though at how 'late' some of you get out for summer! I couldn't imagine going until June!

I would gain about 3 rooms AND 1/2 of a garage if I decide to quit doing day care. LOL It definitely does take up a lot of space, that's for sure. :)

Same for my mom! The outdoor toys are so space consuming, too! I forgot about those! LOL!

Diane

The outside toy's are the ones that get to me the most. LOL It takes me at least 20 minutes every day to take everything we need for the day out from the garage. I REFUSE to leave it all outside because of the way it would look. Dh and I are both very anal about how the yard looks, so... Dd and I have parked our car's out in the driveway all winter while all of those toy's have taken up all our room in the garage. I wish I had more room to store all of them... Dh made sure that he had room for his van though.... LOL IF/when I ever quit... I'll have one heck of a garage sale. LOL

We usually start around the 20th of August. Ours is a church based school and we get out a week earlier than the public school. Most of the country schools around here get out the first or second week of May.

Our kids went to a country school a few years ago before we moved here and one year they got out May 2 and went back the Tues. after Labor Day. They had a full 4 mos. of vacation! That was tooooo long! LOL
