First I should explain, I have asthma: both seasonal, and exercise induced-- that means strenuous activity like climbing stairs, hiking, and running will cause me to have an attack.

If I am in good condition, and take my medicine religiously, I can usually jog a short way, like about 50-100 meters without an attack. But since I have been working out by walking for several months now, walking just doesn't get my heart rate up. So I've been practicing jogging for up to a minute at a time.

Well, I have been off my asthma medication now for a week, and been doing well, but today was the icing on the cake-- I jogged for five minutes, non-stop at 5.5 mph, and didn't have an attack, not even wheezing-- just a little coughing! I am sooo excited! What a rush! I can hardly wait to tell my doctor at my next physical!

How wonderful! I don't have asthma but I don't think I could jog for five minutes. I could walk all day but jogging is just painful.

That's great.

I can walk distances; never been a jogger but I'd love to be able to jog :walkin:

Oh yes-- In fact, I usually walk between 3.7-4.0 mph UPHILL (anywhere between 4-8% incline), then when I get bored with that I will run downhill for a minute, then level out for a minute, then go back uphill. Just level at 4.0 my hr is barely above 100 bpm. I have to run to get it above 120, and it comes down real fast when I slow to a walk! Strangely enough, I can get it up to 120 or so on a stationary bicycle too, then when I switch to the treadmill it comes back down to 100. Resting heart rate is around 65.
