Mine don't...yet! However, both dh and I have terrible vision. I'm extremely farsighted...and dh is quite nearsighted. We're hoping maybe the boys will have perfect vision because of these contrasts! I have a genetic eye disorder (strabismus), and have had glasses (contacts) for nearly all of my life. Dh also wears glasses (contacts).

Nope, but they'd both like to, LOL! Had them both checked in march, and the dr said to bring dd1 back in a year, that she may need glasses, but sometimes puberty clears things up, or pushes them the other way (she's 11).

DD (7) - no

DS (11) - sort of. The doc said he didn't need them. Then the school said he did and sent paperwork that the optometrist needed to fill out. The optometrist said that it would be better for him not to have them. He has some trouble with far distances. She said that kid's eyes this age can fluctuate and that they can actually strenthen a slightly weak eye through use. If they wear the glasses, then they learn to rely on the glasses. We elected to get him glasses for baseball. Other then that she doesn't want him wearing them. She wrote a letter to the school requesting he be able to sit closer if he had problems. One teacher wasn't willing to do that. Luckily we moved. The other two teacher's wrote clearly enough that he could see even from the back of the room and they told him that if he started having a problem to let them know. He did keep his glasses in his backpack for the rare occasion he still had problems. Like a detailed overhead.

My two siblings and I all three wear glasses. The optometrist told my brother that if he hadn't been given glasses as a child (middle school), he probably wouldn't have needed them as an adult. Actually my brother and sister don't wear glasses any longer. They've had Lasik surgery.

Dd1- all the time (well, contacts); when her eyes open in the morning she puts glasses on to find her contacts LOL
Dd2- most of the time: infrequently wears contacts--they seem to irritate her; can function in familiar environment with naked eyes
Dd3- only for school and distance (glasses)

I think if I'd had a 4th, vision would have been perfect. LOL

Did you know that if one parent has glasses, the children have a 50% chance of needing glasses sometime in his or her lifetime. If both parents wear glasses, the kids have a 100% chance of needing glasses sometime in his/her lifetime.

Both dh and I wear glasses (both of my parents wear glasses). My firstborn so far has not needed them. My second son we noticed was blinking/squinting excessively, so we had him examined a couple of years ago. He is slightly farsighted, and didn't really need glasses, but it wouldn't hurt to have them either. So we got them. Anyway, he just had another checkup a few months ago, and the doc said his vision had improved so much that he thinks by the 3rd grade (he's going into 2nd now) he probably won't need them anymore! So the lesson here is, if you catch it early, maybe you can strengthen the eyes enough to not need them longterm.

So far none of my dd's wear glasses. When dd #2 was about 8 years old she did... but soon after she started to wear them she started complaining about having headach's, which seemed to subside when she took her glasses off. She was retested and they told us she didn't need them. 8o So far so good... :) Dh has contacts... and I only wear glasses when I read.

My dks don't and neither does my dh. I wear 1 contact lens in my left eye. I am a little farsighted and get horrible headaches without my contact/glasses for extended periods of time. I can see without them, I just get the headache.

Oldest ds has worn glasses/contacts for years. He's blind as a bat.

Youngest, no problems yet.

I've worn glasses for about 10 years now.

Dh just got glasses last year.

Oldest dd wears glasses. She got them in Grade 2. Other 2 kids are okay so far. Bad eyesight is more common than good in both sides of the family, so keeping my fingers crossed that the other 2 won't need.

Dd's optomotrist says she will be an ideal person for laser surgery when she is done growing.
