Carried this post over from another....are you really thinking of giving up daycare? I am impressed with all the extra space you would have in your home. I know I am being way too nosey, but what will you do with yourself? I am so looking forward to having DD go to Pre K in September and can't even imagine what life will be like when dd and ds are both in school fulltime :happydnc: I am sure I will find something to do, just curious as to what you think you'll do and if your really excited about stopping the daycare....I have a SIL who has roumatory arthritis and is also thinking of stopping her daycare at her house and is sad about loosing the children she has grown to love..... not trying to pry just curious about what your up too....I am so out of the loop these days....

I'm having VERY mixed feelings about it because most of the children that I have in my day care I've had since they were infants... :( and I'm not too thrilled about giving them away to another day care provider... THEIR MINE!!! LOL You get VERY attached to them and it would be extremely difficult for me to let them go...
It's so funny because a few years ago when I wanted to quit really bad and I couldn't... I got a little bitter about not being able to, and now since dh has said it might be a good time... I'm having second thoughts. LOL After doing it for 23 years it's hard to think of myself doing anything else BUT taking care of children. I think our main concern is getting the business OUT of the house. I've got a very nice/large house and I'm sad to say that not all children OR their parents respect other people's property. The children I can understand because it's obvious that they've never been taught... but by the time a parent becomes a parent... you'd think they'd know better! :) It's not only that but you loose every little bit of privacy you have... I LOVE what I do and if I didn't I wouldn't have done it as long as I have done it... but as in any job there are things that aren't good about it. :) I've scaled way down from 12 children to 8 and that's made a tremendous difference and I'm thinking that if I cut down even more, maybe to 4 or 5 kids... it might make it even better. I guess dh is kind of leaving up to me. :)
IF I do quit though I'd certainly go out and find something else to do. I'm a very active person and couldn't ever picture myself just sitting at home (with no children) with nothing to do all day. LOL I'd would like to take a few weeks or maybe even a month off just for ME... to do whatever I want, but I haven't exactly made up my mind what I'm going to do after that yet. I'd REALLY like to go back to school again and brush up on some of my computer skills... I know that without those the chances of me getting ANY kind of a job is slim to nothing. LOL So... I guess I really can't answer your question because I really don't know for sure myself. LOL Thanks for your interest in asking... :)

Diane...instead of selling your fil's house, could you use that as the place for your home daycare...still be able to do it, but have it out of your house?

Yes... I could but I'd have to drive almost an hour to work every morning/evening AND get all new clients. :( I also wouldn't like the idea of having to maintain two places... along with Taxes, etc... Ugh!!! That and it being on a lake may cause a lot of problems and safety issues. :)

Didn't realize it was so far...you're right..it wouldn't work!
sounds wonderful though..I would love to live on a lake!
Too bad you don't own the house next door...LOL...thats what my SIL always says. you'll figure this all out, do whats good for you. I was just so curious to hear that you were considering leaving childcare.....I really need to catch up on this new board. Have you gotten any bites on you FIL's house?

Actually... BEFORE we started fixing it up EVERYBODY (a lot of his neighbor's) seemed to have wanted to buy it but now that WE'VE fixed it up... we really haven't heard too much from any of them. I think it was their intention to buy it, fix it up themselves and then sell it at a profit. I couldn't blame them for wanting to make some money but if their is money to be made here... WE want to be the ones making it. LOL Now all we have to do is come to an agreement as to what the house is worth. We had one realtor tell us it would go for anywhere between $250,000 to $270,000. He also said that if a bidding war happened (which he said has been happening a LOT lately) it could even go up as much as $300,000. LOL Well... ANOTHER realtor came in and appraised it at $l85,000. The other realtor said that was rediculous and that ANY house would/could go for that price... he even questioned if she knew it was on a lake. I had to laugh at that because she didn't really strike me as being too intelligent anyway. At one point when we were downstairs in the family room she asked us if it was a walk out... well, she was standing right NEXT to the door. LOL I was almost sarcastic enough to ask her if she thought it was a picture or a painting of a door or ??? Another time she asked if we knew what year the house was built. We told her l977... two minutes later she say's... I don't suppose you know exactly how old this house is, do you??? Ugh... I got so frustrated with her I had to turn around and walk out and left dh to deal with her. LOL Gotta wonder how she made it this far. She's "suppose" to be one of their #1 realtors. LOL Hummm!!! Were hoping to have the FOR SALE sign up in another week or two... My mom's having her last surgery in a few weeks (the llth of May) and we hope to have everything totally completed by then. We'll have to see though. I could NEVER have lived next door to dh's dad... he would have driven me absolutely CRAZY!!!! Honestly... we would have killed each other. LOL :)

Although I haven't even seen the house I am thinking the realtor who said $185,000 was CLUELESS!! We have had bidding wars going on in town here and I have heard there is a lot more of it "up there" :) We have houses here priced at $185,000 that are older than your fil's house and not on lake property. I really think you'll sell it quickly!!!!! Good luck! And, good luck with your decision as to what to do re: daycare. So much of what you say is exactly the things I have heard my mom say. :)

I thought that she was pretty "clueless" (in more way's than one) too... LOL I've seen houses in the cities here going for $l85,000. and they don't begin to compare with his house and it's on a lake so... it SHOULD go for a lot more than that. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it goes fast...
