Hi there! I found out about this site from our newspaper and checked it out for ideas for my dd (3 years old, birthday in Oct.). When I saw the message board, I couldn't resist -- I love these things!:D
Anyway, I just finished my Master's in Voice and although I'm starting to get past the age limits for a lot of competitions (this is my last year to even attempt the Met Opera auditions), my dh and I agreed that I'd be a SAHM until our dd is ready for kindergarten. My husband is an Elementary Music teacher which he LOVES, and our daughter will go to his school when she's old enough. I'm doing a little performing locally, but a full rehearsal schedule plus performances keeps me away too much, and I want to spend as much time with my dd as I can.
One thing I do need to work on is "withitness"; that whole eyes-in-the-back-of-your-head thing. Most people think it's innate for women, but I've never had it -- I've always been great at concentrating on one thing at a time but it's not helpful at all now. For example, I was on the phone with the local community center registering dd for a preschool class, I got off the phone and she used her safety scissors to take a chunk out of her hair. Yeah, I was right there, just not paying attention! Ugh! 8o But luckily I only had to cut off 3 inches or so (still heartbreaking). I'm taking it as my wake-up call.
Speaking of wake-up calls and withitness, I better get off the computer before I spend too much time here. Thanks for listening and I look forward to meeting you ladies (and some gentlemen I presume) later.
Take care!
