Yikes, huh?? What are they in your area? It's remained at about $1.73/gal here lately. :grimace:

Same here Karla... LOL :) We went to one gas station the other day and they wanted $1.80/gal. Ugh... You can spend a small fortune just filling up your gas tank. :( We try not to drive as much but I like to get out of the house when I can so... sometimes it's not an option for me. LOL Maybe we shouldn't complain though because this morning I heard that in some area's of California gas prices may go up as high as $3.00 a gallon. Ugh!!! Glad I don't live there!

Diane...

Don't know how to compare our prices with the U.S., but we're currently paying anywhere from 78 to 80 cents per litre. I don't know how to convert that to gallons.

Our gas here is about $1.57 a gallon which is about 20-30 cents more per gallon than it was in North Caroliona.

I spent $41.00 filling my tank yesterday. I kept putting it off hoping they would come down a little so I had only 50 miles left before running out. It is $1.67 here right now. Why is it so high again??

We are currently paying 82 cents a litre, that is about $3.30 a gallon!!!!!!! It's just terrible! At least now with the cold weather gone we aren't running the car as much, but before we know it we will be running the A/C and that is a killer.

It's $1.56-$1.60 here. This really gripes me, when the cost of crude is a little less than this time last year. Dh heard that the oil company's also are reporting record profits. It's travel time and we are being shafted.

Afternoon all. We are paying 68.9 cents/litre. Dh converted that and it works out to approx $2.60/US gallon.
And it's been a cold winter with prices hovering around 71.9 cents all winter.

These prices are out of control!! Dh said (according to Bush) the problem doesn't lie with crude oil, but with the number of refineries who can turn the crude oil into gasoline...? I don't care what the problem is I just want it fixed! LOL!

Paid 67.8 cent/litre this AM, on the way home tonight I noticed it back up to 73.4. Glad I got in there in time.

I was listening to a radio talk show about gas prices yesterday. A distributor in this area was asked what he expected the price to be for the 4th of July weekend. He said about 2.70. Today DH paid 1.47. The show said it's already over 2.00 in the Bay area and Chicago.
They also brought up the role of refineries. The distibutor said there are 14 grades of gas sold in the US in order to meet all of the regulations in different areas. He said one way to bring down the price would be to have a single standard. That would mean areas that have *special* gas to meet enviromental standards (L.A. was brought up) would need to lax up. Other areas (I'm assuming in rural areas) that don't require extras would get higher quality gas. But because refineries only needed to produce to one standard it would be more efficient and cheaper in the long run. I hope I explained that correctly! There were other factors brought up as well. Such as the refineries can't keep up with demand and more refineries haven't been built because of enviromental concerns (EPA regs and local not wanting a refinery in their back yard). The flip side was brought up that it may be to the companies advantage to not build refineries. More gas stations being affiliated with the big companies and less competition. Increased usage. Selling to Japan instead of the US (some said to drive up prices here others said it was easier). Taxes were brought up as another factor. In OR when the price was 1.42 last year, .47 of that went directly to taxes. That didn't count direct costs (gas) or overhead (building) or any of the hidden taxes (ie enviromental upkeep, taxes on salaries of workers, property taxes etc).
One person asked why the automanufacturers didn't lobby on users behaves. What was said is that when prices reach a high enough level, sales of autos goes up because people look for a more fuel efficient vehicle. Another suggestion was that this is also to the enviromentalist advantage. When the price reaches high enough people begin to economize. That was the same thing one enviromentalist group said about the Nothwest energy crisis. Reduce supply forcing the price up and usage goes down.
BTW - anyone have one of those hybrid vehicles? Part gas and part electric? DH and I talked about getting one of the hybrid SUVs in another year or two but think we will be forced to buy this year. If we do it will be a staight gas SUV since we don't want to go hybrid until they've been in use (at the SUV level) for long enough to work out the problems.

Our gas prices mysterious jump on Friday mornings .10 cents. Thursday they were $1.59 Friday they were $1.69. Tomorrow they will be back down again. The tourist traffic has started and the gas stations jack up the prices on the weekends. My dh takes my car to work and fills it up for me. He works 60 miles away and there the price is in the $1.40's. I think it's terrible that they make the prices so much higher on Cape Cod then the rest of the state.

Actually, it's all about money and looking after the American oil producers. If the Arab oil price plummets, so does the American oil price. If the Arabs pumped the oil out of the ground like crazy, the price would plummet and the oil producers (both Arabian and American) would lose money. By controlling the supply, it keeps the prices high and the big guys happy. We pay the price for that, though.

Just like diamonds. They actually aren't all that rare or precious, but DeBeers owns all the mines in the world--they ration out the diamonds and that keeps the price inflated.

I am not looking forward to summer gas prices. I have been trying hard to spend less and now this. Gas here was 1.50. Not too bad, yet. Texas usually has lower prices than everyone else. Hope it stays that way!!
