Went to the dermatologist this morning. Come to find out I have Telogen Effluvium. Says lots, eh? Apparently your hair goes through active and resting phases, growing during active and falling out during resting. Usually only approximately 10% of your hair is in the resting phase at one time. The doc said with this TE about 40% of the hair is resting and falling out. It should spontaneously slow and then stop falling out over the next few months. It could be chronic and happen again but he said (good news) I won't ever go completely bald and that this is the "best" form of hair loss. Nothing can help it but it's not as severe as other problems. He also said that it can happen to children (male or female) but rarely happens to men.

To examine me he basically ripped his fingers through my hair. When he came back with a handful he looked at it, saw the white follicle (?) ends and that was that. He was an incredibly rude man which did absolutely nothing to help my attitude towards doctors but I assume he at least knew what he was talking about! So now I get to do the happy dance that I'm not going to go bald!!! :yippee: :D

Wow! Learn something new everyday don't you?
I'm so glad you got answers! So, technically, we all go through this but you're just overachieving at it, huh? ;) I'm with Ann, hope the cycle is over soon.

Glad to hear that you got some answers. I hate rude dr's!

It's true you learn something new everyday. It now makes sense why sometimes my hair falls out more than other times.

Glad you got some answers and won't lose all of your hair! :yippee:

My nephew had something going on where all of a sudden he had a bald spot. Can't remember what it was called, but he got a cream to out on the bald spot - need to ask my sis if its helped. :tinysmile

Yeah, ROFL!!! I'm just an overachiever! :D I didn't know about the cycles either but I guess it makes sense.

Karla, is it Alopecia something (I think there's two kinds)? My nephew had that and there were like nickle-sized bald spots all over his head. His doctor said his was due to stress and the cream helped. I think it took a while to clear up, but it did eventually go away.

Not going completely bald is a very good thing, lol! I would make one heck of an ugly bald lady!!! 8o

Well, I guess some of the brushing, curling irons, rollers, etc that we put our hair thru it needs to get its rest too... lolol hmmmm
That is good to know though, have lost some of mine; but was sorta grateful because had lots of it; instead of being able to put about 70 rollers in my hair am down to about 58 last time I counted... lololol (for reals toooo!!!)
And with long hair its not the small rollers either.. lolololol

Which reminds me need to go do my hair.. hmm but feel lazy today (in the hair department that is).
Last nite got about 35 ?? fortune cookies cut out; taking a break from that am going to do the t-shirts today.
They are for ornaments for the Adventurers Club, to do a fundraiser with to help pay for their little overnite camping trip. Which I for one am dreading... lololololol  8o
I am notttttttt an outdoor person, period, give me things to do indoors.. lololololol hmmm no wonder I have gained so much weight ... sit tooo much... lololol
seeeeeeeeeeeeeee yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Glad to hear you got some answers. I think some of these doctors who have an attitude like that need a good swift kick in the pants. I hate rude doctors.

I know that when I had my kids, I lost some of my hair in the front. The doctor told me that it was going through the "resting" period, and that it should grow back. It took some time, but it did come back a little thinner.
