View Full Version : Year at a glance

Now that I'm back in school I won't be able to keep up with this forum. I was thinking that it would be cool if I could have a little synopsis of what you all have been up to up to refer back to when I do have time to visit. We could list the major events of last year. Don’t worry; I’m not expecting it to be as long as mine. The neat thing about it is people can go back when they want to and add to it every couple of months.

I'll start:

Sept '02: I go back to college to get my prerecs for nursing school. Unfortunately, I also agree to be PTA president at my kids’ school.

Oct. '02: I'm exhausted; I have an absolute hysterical fit in front of my kids. I feel better when I talk to a couple friends who've returned to school and who've just done the exact same thing. On the up side, I'm enjoying my A&P class. My teacher is a former Doctor who had to give up his practice because of complications from his bipolar disorder. He's a very colorful lecturer. He wants us to call him "Doctor Mark.". During lab one of the students asked if he had any kids and he replied that he and his "male life partner" were having fertility problems.

Nov. '02: I look forward to Thanksgiving with friends instead of my crazy family but the evening ends with a brawl among three of my friends who are involved in a sorted love triangle.

Dec. '02: I'm spending a lot of time with my lab partner in order to prepare our presentation. He is very attractive and interesting. We take the same bus home from class but get so involved in talking we both get on the wrong bus.

Jan. '03: Winter term. I sign up for a different lab session and get a different partner. She is really nice and the only one in class who's actually older than me. She is a 48 year old massage therapist who actually looks great with a bare mid-driff. One of the 30-something male students has a crush on her, but she has a boyfriend.

Feb '03: The school board announces plans to close my kids' school so the TAG school occupying the same building can expand. As PTA president I feel completely useless. Now reporters call and leave messages wanting to hear my opinion. I leave messages for the news reporters but they don't call back. I live outside the school’s boundaries so my children aren't allowed to use the bus next year to go to the school the district picked out for us. Our neighborhood school refuses to admit my children because there obliged to take kids from another school that's slated for closure and they can’t expand because they are sharing their building with a magnet school. AAAAUUUGGGG!

March '03: Still dealing with the pending school closure. Going to meetings with crying, screaming people. I think the other PTA members are mad at me for not doing something about it....maybe I'm crazy!

Apr. '03: My children finally have “official permission” to use the school bus to go to their new school next year. (I really don't understand how the district is saving any money.) I step down as PTA president. I had planned to do this from the beginning and someone from the TAG school had said she'd fill in for me. Still, I feel guilty about it but I'm going to school full time now and it all seems rather pointless anyway.

May '03 School's going well. I've made a lot of friends. I've had to take the same lab class with the guy from fall term. I agree to do the lab project with him again. I have to admit I enjoy his company a bit too much. :\

Summer '03: School is out and I miss that silly guy from my A&P class. My friend's been bringing over way too many bottles of wine lately. One evening, she insists on bleaching my hair. …Great, I've just turned 40 and I look like a roller derby queen! I rest of the summer I spend hiking in the woods and trying to make my hair look normal again.

Fall '03: Back in school again...

:bawling: Come on guys. I feel like I'm in the PTA again and no one likes my idea. (Can you hear the whining?) :bawling:

I found it very theraputic actually, really.

I don't think my memory is good enough to remember my whole last year.

I loved reading about your year.... Thanks for sharing! I get alot of Christmas cards that have "year at a glance" letters in them. It's a good way to catch up. Luckily, I can check in here frequently and feel like I kind of "know" what most people are up to. I'm just not ambitious enough to write it all down right now...!

 You did set yourself up good for that one! :newwink:

But I seem to remember a wedding, a graduation, an expectant mommy, selling your dad's house (?) - you've been busy, woman!
Or am I a year behind, esp. with the wedding??

Okay Jeannie, I will give this a try:

Sept 2002~ Was one month into my last semester of school before I interned. I was really worried that something was going to go wrong.

Oct 2002~ Still trying to finish school, and make sure that all of my papers were in so I could intern. Took on a job at a vet clinic 2 nights a week, so that we could make ends meet while I interned.

Nov 2002~ Still going to classes and still working at the vet.

Dec 2002~ Found out where and with whom I would be interning. Finished up my classes. Got a "lemon" new truck. Still at vet.

Jan 2003~ Began my internship. Still at vet. (beginning to hate vet)

Feb 2003~ Still interning. Really hating vet. Began trying to get pregnant.

March 2003~ One month till I am finished with my internship. Began thinking of jobs. Still trying to get pregnant, and still hating vet.

April 2003~ Finished my internship; loved every minute of it. Still trying to get pregnant, began subbing again, and stayed at vet  still don't know why.

May 2003~ Graduated from college with a BS degree in Elem Ed. :yippee: :yippee: :happydnc: Still excited about that if you can't tell, still at vet, still trying to conceive, and still working on finding a job.

June 2003~ Still at vet & hating it more by the day, still looking for job, and still trying to conceive.

July 2003~ Found job with preschool, not overly excited about it, but hey- now I can quit the vet clinic. Take 10 hour class, 20 hour class, and BOS class for new job. Find out at end of month that I have a job as a fourth grade teacher. :happydnc: A dream come true. Still trying to conceive.

Aug 2003~ Begin teaching math and science in a three woman team. Learn some parents are unhappy about their darlings travelling that much. Find out fourth grade classes are too big. Find out fourth grade classes will be reduced. Still trying to conceive.

Sept 2003~ Begin teaching reading, writing, spelling, and language arts in a two woman team. Still love teaching, but hate starting the first day of school all over again in the fourth week.
Still trying to conceive.

Oct 2003~ Hoping and praying that I can figure out the new computer system to get report cards out. Still trying to get pregnant, and beginning a new medicine that should help. (fingers crossed)

There you go~ That pretty much somes up my boring and mudane life.
Thanks for doing this Jeannie! :)

Thanks! :) I liked the three teacher team better. I am having a hard time adjusting to this two teacher team myself as well as the children. The other teacher and I have very different styles, and when I was on the three teacher team, we got along so well, but I still love teaching~ it is my dream come true.:D I just have to remember to be myself, and not let the new teacher talk me in to stuff I don't want to do.

Wow Leigh! That was awsome! :D

My dd's a 4th grader too. She has a 4th grade teacher, a literacy teacher and a math bock teacher. Their school separates the kids baced on how they are doing in the subject.

That must have been really stressful to work at the vet clinic and do your internship. Yikes! 8o

I wish you success with your family planning! :)

Neat idea! It would be very helpful for those of us who don't get here regularly. I think everyone knows my past year, but here it goes anyway:

Jan -desperately searching for bank to take on the preschool loan
Feb- (14th to be exact)- loan is approved and finalized. From the 14th on working day and night to remodel house
March- remodeling is on final touches and trying to coordinate all the inspectors so I can open
April (28th to be exact) I get my license and open for business
May-enrollment picks up greatly, starting to take reservations for summer
June- hired my first employee and started my summer program
July- Every day blends into the next one This month is mostly a big blur
August- Getting nervous about getting preschool enrollment, hold registration, begin first preschool classes, welcome new kids & say goodbye to some summer kids. My baby starts kindergarten.
Sept. - train new part time employee, begin search for another part time employee. Get news that my little sister is engaged and getting married next July!! Think ds #1 has a girlfriend.
October--planning and looking forward to Halloween activities Working 12+ hours a day.
