View Full Version : How did you meet your dh
I know we have posted this before, but since we have a lot of newbies-thought it would be fun again.
I met mine in NY during a 4th of July picnic at his family's house. My sister and dh's Mom are neighbors and I did NOT want to go to this party because I had no idea who these people were. My sister lives in the mountains, so there are a lot of weird people up there. Well, we went , I saw him and knew that he was awesome. He was on his last day of vacation from the Army and was returning to California the next day. Needless to say, 8 months later and seeing him for a total of 15 days, we were married. 8 years and counting.
We worked for the same bank on the same floor in 1980, at my first job right out of college. We were just good friends, in fact we kept trying to fix each other up with our friends. One night a bunch of people from my department had gone to happy hour and he came with us. I told him that I had a girlfriend that I wanted to fix him up with and he said "no, I rather date you". So I blew my friend off and the rest is history!!! LOL

I was on my knees counting Godiva chocolates in a department store.
I was the stores cash office supervisor and dh came in that night as a new store manager. We were introduced and I thought he was a total geek. We became very goods friends, like AnnW, fixing each other up. I fixed him up with a friend of mine one night and I was soooo jealous! That night, after my friend left, we had our first kiss. I'll never forget it. I told him that if I kissed him I was never going to stop kissing him.......and I haven't!! I love those lips!!!!!
we were supposed to meet a few different times, but we never did, then on night my good friend, a male, asked me to accompany him to a company picnic, he didn't want to go alone and his girlfriend was a real well, doosy.....he told me his boss would pick me up for this party and to watch out cuz he was his boss and to be nice...LOL (like Im not nice?)....LOL...well he was the cutest thing I had and have ever seen, and I guess I was his type also...we had our first kiss 17 days later and we have been together for 13 years...married for 10 this June, I can't even imagine life without him.....

I had just graduated from high school and interviewed for a job at CENEX. (Farmers Union Central Exchange) Of course I got the job, and on the day I started I noticed him walk past my desk and thought he was a SO handsome. He also had on this great smelling cologne. :) Well anyway... he would always stop at the desk of this other girl who worked in my department and talk with her. I was SOOO jealous because he never even noticed or looked at me... so I thought. LOL Well... one day I asked this girl if she like him or if he liked her and she told me that no... actually, he liked ME... and that by stopping at her desk, he was hoping to make me jealous. Ughhh... After that I thought he was a total jerk and blew him off, but that could only last for so long... LOL One day I told one of my friends that I was going to marry him... and she thought I was a total and complete idiot because I hadn't even officially been introduced to him yet. I didn't even know what his name was. LOL Well... we started flirting with each other and one night when it was raining outside I asked him if he'd like to give me a ride home. He "said" he was teasing but he said NO... Then I KNEW he was a jerk... LOL Let's just say... he was NOT impressing me one bit!!! Anyway, I got about a block from the office and he pulls up behind me and asked me why I was walking... didn't I want a ride? Here I stood soaking wet, hair dripping... LOL I think I remember telling him where to go, that I was already wet and I may as well walk the rest of the way home. He drove slow next to me and finally BEGGED me to get in... and of course I did. :) He drove me home every night after that. LOL He was "supose" to teach me how to drive so I could get my drivers license... which he never did, but we ended up getting a marriage license instead. That was 26 years ago (27 in June) and... and I can't tell you how much I love him... I couldn't imagine what my life would be without him. So yeah... I met him at work. :) LOL
You two had the whole mind game going on didn't you? LOL They are fun to play, if they stop eventually. I had one guy CONTINUALLY play them with me for about 4 months-sweet and than pull away, sweet and than pull away. I had to move on and he married the next girl he met. LOL
Sound like your courtship was fun!

Just joking, but we actually meet at K-Mart. I was working there. It was set up as a blind date. I worked the front desk and thought well if he is not cute I will just hide my name tag and say that She went home. Anyway, he came in and was a cute teddy bear. Our first date was May 12 and he asked me to marry him on July 4. He took me to Paris the first week in August. He is the best and I love him to pieces.
He is still my teddy bear after 10 yrs.

We met in college. Dh and I had a mutual friend...and I had been to his house once to work on a class project with his friend. A couple of days later we were both in the same bar (club) and he recognized me and came over to say Hi. I had NO idea who he was!! LOL He actually had to remind me of the connection. (giggle) Anyway, we ran into each other (total coincidence!) twice the next week. He finally asked for my phone number and called me to go out. (First Date: the movie The Color Purple) Anyway, that was in 1986.... married in 1989, and happily together ever since. I truly believe in fate!
We met at church. He was teaching the young adult class. (Which we still call the young adult class even though we are now all in our 40's and 50's) I remember he came up before services and asked me, "If I were to ask you out, would you say 'yes'?" I said, "yes" and it was another week before he actually asked me out.

Yes, isn't that too funny. I thought I was shy. Guess he didn't want to risk rejection. By the way what are you doing on in the wee hours of the morning?

couldn't sleep!
It was the summer between my second and final year of graduate school. I was waiting tables, One day our managers house mate came in for lunch (wearing shorts and a tank top) and because another server had one of my tables in his section to make an eight top, I asked if I could have the table in his with this single. Of course he said yes (who wants a single!)
He was very cute, but sooo not my type, so when he asked me out, I thought "Perfect. He's not my type, so we can go out, have fun, hang out, but I won't get all emotionally involved and I'll be able to go back to finish grad school and concentrate." Not. Ten years later, still going strong.
Whoever said that about the kiss, I was that way with his arms. I was thinking "Don't touch those shoulders or you'll be in big trouble." I did.

These stories are so fun to read! :)
We met and dated off and on in college. We both did our share of breaking up with each other and for a while never seems to feel the same way at the same time? Anyway, after deciding to just be friends dh called one summer to say he'd be in town with a friend and maybe we could meet up for a while? Well, my girlfriend and I ended up going out with them and I wasn't really even looking forward to it - thought it was no big deal. Within a few hours of seeing him I knew I had fallen all over again and never really had him out of my system.... That was history and we were engaged 6 months later. I think it all happened the way it did for a reason and that we both grew up in those early college years. By the time we finally connected at the same time we were both ready and we had such a strong friendship as the base of our relationship. We have been married 6 1/2 years - have known each other 11 and he is the best thing that has ever happened to me! :*
btw - an old high school friend just wrote to me and asked, "Do you remember when you told me you were going to marry Tom?" I don't remember that at all and I can't wait to ask her about it because that would have been within the first few months that I even met him! LOL!

I was just coming off of a phase where I really was down on men. A group of us went into the desert to party. I complained to my best friend that I had all of these guys asking me out but absolutely none of them appealed to me. We were stationed at a small base and just about the only single females. I was in a really funny mood and was just plain sick of being alone. She asked me what I wanted in a guy. I remember just giving a rough description. About 6 foot. Brown eyes. Fun to be with. Cute butt. Dimples. Someone good with his hands. That kind of thing. She swears I went so far as to say in a band. That same night we had a meteor shower in Arizona. I remember hundreds of falling stars. I kept wishing that I would find the right guy. That would have been Saturday July 28. The next Wednesday on Aug 1, she came to my dorm room really excited saying she had just met my boyfriend. He had just arrived on base that day from England. Again on Thursday she went on and on about how she had met the perfect guy for me and he was exactly like I had desribed. On Friday nights everyone usually started out on partying on the dorm balcony before heading to the club or desert. I decided to spend the night studying for promotion. My best friend literally pulled me from my room to go to the party. We got married the next June and will be married 10 years. The country song by Bryan White *Wishing on Someone Else's Star* always reminds me of when we met. I guess you could also say me best friend picked out my husband for me.

Dh and I met at our local fair. He knew my brothers and I was with them.....dh came to talk to them and stole my cotton candy! We just kept bumping into each other for the rest of the day...I saw him in the arcade and was watching him play a game and when he put his initials in for the highest score I noticed that we had the same initials!
By that evening he came to the grandstand show with me, my little sister and brother and mom.
After that he just kept coming to visit me....he had a car and I was only 14 1/2! LOL
We have been together for 20 years....and even with our ups and downs (which are way to frequent for my liking lately) we are very much in love!

I was on a family vacation in Orlando I was 16. DH was in Nuclear Power School with the Navy he was 21. My family went to Rosie Ogradies. It's a family entertainment bar type place, with different rooms with different music. My sister and I went to the disco. Mike saw me and started to talk to me, asked me if I was was 18, I said yes, oops. We danced all night and he walked me back to the bus, he says I wouldn't let go of his hand. I gave him the phone number to our hotel. He went back to his barracks and told his roommate he met the girl he was going to marry!!!!! He was stationed in Groton, CT so he could be closer to me. I eventually told him I was 16, before he moved up here. We were married when I was 19 and here we are 13 years later!!!

A cousin of mine and her husband had invited several friends and family (both sides) for an end of summer pork/beef roast at their farm. I was chatting with a friend of mine when she asked "do you know who that guy on the end of the hay wagon is? I had no idea. I replied " Why, are you interested, he is kinda cute.' She said she had seen him watching me all afternoon. I told her she was dreaming; maybe it was her he was watching. She said " I bet you fifty bucks it was you" We just laughed it off and carried on chatting. About 10 min. later my cousins five year old came up to us and announced "Mr. Brian says that you owe Auntie Karen fifty dollars" Me being as clueless as ever didn't catch on to what he was talking about, but Karen did. Apperently the tot had overheard us talking and went over and asked him which one of us he was watching and told him what we said. I was ready to die of emarrassment when I finally figured it out.:o
About an hour later he approached me, teasing " So, yu think I'm kinda cute eh!" I was red all over again.
We had our first date the next weekend and married two years later. Ten wonderful years this July!:*

I think it was some sort of experiment. I was getting an 'A' in the class and all the kids sitting around me were failing so he moved me behind my future dh then he started failing too.
I don't think he ever held it against me because we became good friends our Jr & sr year. (I was dating someone else.) We kept in touch while I was away at college and after 5 years we were married. We will have been married for 15 years in August.
