View Full Version : Family dentistry
I'm a little obsessed lately with teeth I know  I can see all my post about them. Oh well, here goes, I am a little ticked off at my Dentist, dh has an appointment today, in the city, over 55 minutes away, we use that dentist because my niece works there, and we are supposed to get a family discount.....well....we get a family discoun kinda, but I don't think its really worth it....we drive for an hour....and he charges, get this...$76.00 dollars for a cleaning.....that's outrageous....
I will have to find a dentist here in my small down for a better rate than that......yikes...I feel bad about being so cheap, but Really, I don't have that kind of money for all four of us to get our teeth cleaned twice a year....When we lived in New Jersey in a town we couldn't afford to live in I might add...we never paid that for a cleaning....I feel sad that my niece didn't say "hey hes a little pricy Aunt Renee", she knows I don't have much money......any way.....what does your dentist charge for a cleaning? sorry to ramble ...its early and I'm awake, and going.....too much coffe for me...
Maybe she doesn't think he is, my kids' pedi dentist is $80 per cleaning (that includes the xrays).
I wouldn't hesitate with telling her that you won't be coming back.
Good luck finding a new one.

Our's charges $75.00 also... but we don't drive those distances to get there either. Add in your $$/gas as well as your time and mileage on your car... and your probably spending a lot more than you need to be. It doesn't sound like he's giving you ANY kind of a family discount. :( I guess if I were you I'd look for somebody who is a little closer. Even if he does charge you the same $75.00 as your other dentist... you'll still be coming out ahead. :) I know of one dentist in town here who only charges $60.00... but he's ALWAYS full and you have to make an appointment WAY in advance in order to get in. (no wonder... LOL) Good luck!!! I'm sure your neice will understand your reasons for needing to make a change.
I am totally in shock that the prices are so high everywhere else.....I know that this doesn't include xrays for us, and your Right Diane about us spending the gas money and not to mention all that time driving back and forth.....I love my niece but sometimes I wonder what she is thinking...the discount is not worth it, especially since I can't see it...LOL...
AnnW, In the case of the Ped. dentist, your kids are probably getting flouride treatments too, and Xrays you said, right? In that case I could maybe see the $75.00 per visit....
Renee..I got it backwards, the flouride treatments are included, xrays aren't.
I hear ya....going to search for a dentist on line, this should be fun...LOL...wish me luck..
I think my dentist charges $68 for cleaning and flouride treatment, but insurance only gives him like $56. He is on the high end of the price range here too. Don't waste your gas money and go someplace local. Your neice will have to understand,
sometimes I think dh feels so loyal to his niece that he doesn't realize that we could probably save some serious dollars....going local that is....looked on the internet, but think the phone book will help me more in my little town...Village....LOL

We have had excellent dental insurance, but just dropped it this year. This will be the first time I have to pay. I think we figured about $75 per cleaning. I just hope nothing major comes up. We just had sealants put on dd's teeth in Dec.

We just paid $112 for each of the kids for cleaning, xrays, and floride. Lucky dh insurance covers 80%. New package will be 100%.
We do have 100% coverage for all of us, but when I took the kids our "free" dentist, it was an absolute DISASTER!!!!!!!!!! I love them for dh and me, but, while they were as sweet as could be with the kids, they were just too tenative. DD had a cavity and they didn't use gas, got her half done up with novacaine and then worried about hurting her (again, really sweet and caring) that they were too afraid to continue.
We decided to go back to our wonderful pedi dentist and just pay.

Our dental insurance pays for everything for the kids, except for the gas for cavities. But that is only $10.00 out of our pocket. For me it is $18.75 for a cleaning I get them done every 3 months. DH doesn't go to the dentist. They don't work during the night when he is available. :-)
