What a morning! Dh is out of town all week, and as usual our mornings are crazy! Both boys and I need to in the van, and on our way to school/ and babysitter's by 6:55 a.m. Anyway, we get to the sitter's today, she takes one look at ds and says, "Wow! He has pink eye. He can't come here today." HUH????? I take a look at him...well it looks a little puffy, and pink. HMMM, why didn't I notice this during the "get ready" period this a.m. I say, "Uh, OK", and drive to work with both boys. Oldest ds goes to the same school where I work, anyway, so he was fine. Youngest ds and I go in and work on getting a substitute teacher so that I can take him to the doctor. Sure enough.....pink eye! So, he and I get the day off. That's nice...huge surprise. Now....I feel terrible that I didn't even NOTICE his eye this morning. Yikes!!!!! Has this ever happened to you????

You're not a bad mom!!! We all have little oversights, especially when things are hectic and if he wasn't complaining of any symptons you can't beat yourself up! :)

When you are so hurried playing both Mom and dad, its so easy to overlook those things. Don't feel bad!!!

Don't feel bad, it could and has happened to most if not all of us at one time or another. Mornings are the most hectic part of the day in most households, and things tend to get overlooked. Your a great mom, don't let anyone tell you any different!

Who would expect you to notice something like this when you're running around crazy trying to get everybody ready on your own??? My goodness, don't be so hard on yourself!!! I've had mom's do this a few times too and it's not a big deal. Your not perfect... and nobody expects you to be... and you're still a great mom... LOL I hope you had a good unexpected day off... and I hope that at least the weather was nice so you could go outside an enjoy it. LOL :)

Diane...

How long does he have to stay at home? Don't worry about not noticing, maybe his eye didn't get red and puffy until after you got in the van!! Yeah, that's it!!

Mary,
I'm glad it got looked at by the doctor. It's more annoying than serious, but you know that. Your story reminded me of one of my "bad" mom moments. My oldest dd was 5 1/2. She was a notorious dawdler at bedtime, one more hug, one more thing to tell me, one more thing that required her getting out of bed..... She came to me one evening and said "I don't feel good and my head hurts." I was annoyed that she was still wandering and told her "you're fine, go back to bed and I'll see you tomorrow." In the morning she was covered with chicken pox. I could actually see them coming out on her stomach. I felt so bad. I think that was the first time she heard about the boy who cried wolf. I think she's forgotten about it, but I still remember after 11 years. I do seem to seem to remember the low points in parenting, not as often--but as clearly as the high points.

Hope he's feeling better, and that you had a nice day at home hanging out with him. (And washing your hands every 12 minutes, of course!) LOL

I don't think that you are a bad parent. I have had plenty of parents bring their children in with it and when we tell them they have to take their children home they balk at us. I have had kids that were throwing up what seemed like every two seconds and when we called the parents they were like do we have to cme and pick up our child. Puhlease. You handled it wonderfully. Don't sweat it.

Thanks everyone!!!! It's easier to laugh at the whole situation today. We actually had a very nice day. He wasn't really "sick", so I just kept him away from neighborhood kids. He has drops for his eyes ...2 drops, 4 times per day! Yikes. The pharmacist hands me the bottle, and I teased him and asked if it came with arm and leg restraints! LOL My oldest ds has had pink eye before....and I get it at least once a year (that Kdg teacher thing....I guess). I was kind of teasing about being the "bad" mom...just surprised at myself that I didn't notice it...but my sitter took one look at the kid and did! His eye looks much better today (I actually suspect allergies...and not pink eye...but my doctor is cautious) and he is no longer contagious since he has had the meds for 24 hours.

Thanks again, guys!!!!!

Glad he is feeling better today!
I think the worst part of pink eye IS the drops!!!!!!!
