I am so pissed! I wasn't able to use my computer yesterday because we got slammed by porn crap again (it's about the fourth time). All I do is go online sometimes and all this stuff starts happening to my computer, somtimes before I've even gotten past my homepage. It changes my homepage to a XXX site, downloads icons/links to my desktop and opens about 8 pages, all within seconds. It takes forever to clean up, and my computer is old enough that it can't take the added stress of opening all these things. I have to ctrl/alt/del out of a lot of it because the windows won't close any other way.

Does anyone know of a way to protect my computer from this? I've tried adjusting security settings but that's a pain in the butt too because it asks for permission for every page before it loads. Any advice would be great!

I'd be interested in a fix too...same thing happens on our computer at home...not fun with a 13 year old in the house! I'm thinking I may have to download a pop-up stopper, but I hate downloading all kinds of stuff and cramming up my computer. I have found that if I use Netscape I don't get them, but if I use IE, I do.

Are you using a spyware program like Adaware or Spybot? It sounds like you have got some spyware on that's doing all that.

I downloaded Spybot and ran it and I still keep getting them. Definitely spyware...alot of my pop-up boxes ask if I'm tired of getting pop-ups, lol.

I think when I run it I'm afraid I'm going to ask it to delete something I actually need and then where will I be, lol?

I use adaware and norton internet security. It must be doing what I need it to because I've never had a prob with sites doing what you are describing -- porn or otherwise. If you have teens in the house, you may want to check out the histories and the cookies to get a feel for where they have been surfing. That could be adding to the problem of 'reinfections'. No matter how dilegent you are in your efforts, its not going to work if someone in the house is allowing certain sites access to place spyware and other code onto your pc.

most of them have a place that you can quarrantine them to see if you need them first.

Thanks, I'll have dh check out the links, Ann.

I'm the only one that uses this computer, and the only one with the passwords, so I know it's not what sites are accessed.
