View Full Version : Do you have China, Silver, and good stemware?
My mother bought me some beautiful China, when I was about 18, for my hope chest, we picked out a beautiful pattern that matched her Silver perfectly....the silver is another story all together...
I have some nice crystal stemware I use for special occassions, we got it when we got married.....
just wondering where do you store them all?
as of now I have the China still in the hope chest.....

Yes I do... but I didn't go out and pick/choose it on my own but it was inherited to us from dh's mom/dad after they passed away. I still have all of it stored in boxes... out in our garage. I have nowhere to put it either. I use to have a china hutch but gave it away because it was so big and took up too much room. Even if I still had it I don't think I'd display it because it totally wouldn't match my kitchen/dining room. (blue) and I have mauves/greens... We've never used them... and probably never will but their nice to have just in case. :)
I inherited all my crystal from my grandmother. I have service for 14 in my silver and china with extra plates to make it 20. I keep in all in my china hutch that was my grandmother's also.
No china, no silver, but yes, I do have good crystal stemware. How wacky is that? We got the stemware for our wedding and have used it a few times just for candlelit dinners for dh and I. So far I'm not missing the china or silver.

I have actually two sets of good china, tons of stemware and good cutlery as well. We got most of our stuff for our wedding as well. One of the sets of china was passed on to us by dh's grandparents (who are no longer alive).
Unfortunatley as we do not have dining room furniture, most of the stuff is still stored in the basement in boxes.

I have silverware but nothing else. I keep saying I need a wedding shower after 16 years of marriage, but I don't think I'll get one. :-)

We have china that my mom bought us. Stemware that my bil started me on for gifts...but unfortuately the pattern has gone out of production.
We also have Oneida flatware, but the pattern is almost the same as my regular day stuff so I don't ever use it. We got it as a wedding gift....not my personal choice so not my favorite.

We have crystal, china and are building on our silver (dh insisted on sterling when we married).
I keep crystal and china in my g'mother's hutch and the silver is in her buffet.

We have crystal stemware, recieved as a wedding gift from a group of dh co-workers, very nice and variety of different glasses.
We also have dh's as well as my grandmother's sets of silver. both patterns very similar.
As for china my Grandmother started me on a collection of Old County Roses, for my sixteenth birthday - towards my hope chest. Other family members joined in over the years. We have some displayed in the china cabinet in the dining room, but most are stored. We have used them on a few special occasions- childrens christenings, our 10th anniversary, etc..
Ya'll don't use your "good" stuff? I use mine all the time! Why have it???

I personally don't have enough of my silver to use yet and my china AND crystal have both been discontinued, so I'm afraid to use it 'all the time'. Whenever we have a special meal or holiday, of course we use it.

VERY familiar with that site, thanks. :) Our china, crystal and Christmas china are registered with them.
Our china is too expensive for us to pick up pieces very often (dinner plates are $80 a piece) and the crystal I really have enough of so it does get used and just not something I think of buying more of.
We are in the silver mode recently - we are getting some each year from our family with is nice. Dh found a website (www.homeclick.com) with it and there's free shipping, I believe, so he's picked up a few pieces for me recently.

Isn't it ridiculous? We don't use our often...and it's really a shame. I think part of the reason is that our china isn't supposed to be washed in the dishwasher...silver edging? or something.
We have china (from our wedding) service for 16. And the same in silver flatware. We don't have a matching set of crystal...bits and pieces.

Jen, I checked out the site Ann posted and they don't have any of mine in stock either. But....I did a search just for fun on my pattern of china, and of course ebay was the first site to show up. Believe it or not, pieces of my china are there! And what prices! 8o If I ever really need money, I'll just sell mine off piece by piece!

LOL! I agree. I have Blue Willow. Some I've inherited from my grandmother and some I've got on my own. Also collect a Jewel Tea pattern that belonged to my great grandma. I use the blue willow every day.
