dd and I were talking about story time, and my great niece said that they never read books....dd was horrified that they don't read together...I was just curious as to how many of you read with your kids everyday? seems like we read some in the afternoon, but mostly we read at least 3 short books or 1 long one each night before bed.....I think it helps them learn to read and calms my kids down before bed...LOL....DS is starting to read on his own, which is fascinating to me.....oh well, just thought I would ask.

We read everyday - any number throughout the day and then always more when we tuck in for the night. Youngest ds is in the fun stage of having a few short board books memorized so it's fun to let him "read" to us! :) We have more books than we know what to do with and we also make lots of trips to the library. I love reading and would love for my dks to continue to love it as they grow older. :read:

We don't read together as much as we used to since both boys are reading on their own. It is my goal to get back to reading to them each nite. Some of our favorite books to read together are The Magic Tree House series and Little House on the Prairie series. It is such a great time to snuggle with and I love that! :)

ps-I forgot to add we love to read Junie B. Jones books over breakfast. We all laugh so hard at them. Starts the day off on a cheery note.

We used to be better! We have been working hard on getting DD to bed on time (8:30). This has been a real struggle for me and her. Before this we would read together in my bed. But DH said he wants his bed back without having to carry her. I am also having a hard time getting household chores done before 8:30. OHHHHH the busy days. IT is hard to believe that there is only 3 1/2 weeks left of school.

I read two stories every afternoon to my dck's just before quiet time. Not ALL kids enjoy or appreciate story time though. I can always tell which children have parents who read to them on a regular basis. The one's who aren't can't seem to still for more than two minutes into the story while those who do, sit quietly and can hardly wait for the rest of the story. LOL I swear, I've almost got more books than our local library. LOL

When my own children were little I always read to them too. They always LOVED books and that's probably why I have such of a big collection of them now. All those book clubs we belonged to. LOL They are still big readers and I think that's because they were read to so much when they were little. I always found it was a nice way to end the day before bedtime. :)

I always read to my kids at night before bed. As ds is now 12 we don't do to much reading together. In the summer though we will read chapter books together. It is so important to read to them and also let them see you reading just for fun. :read:

We read almost every day. Usually at bedtime. ds goes to bed by 7:30 lately, has his story and lights out. Then dd and I curl up on the couch and read a chapter or two from a book we picked up at the library. She enjoys the Little House on the Prairie series (as well as the tv show), the Mary-Kate and Ashley Mysteries. We have recently read a few books that I had when I was young, that my mom passed on to her on our last visit.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Little Princess(my favorite), and are currently reading The Secret Garden. :read::read::read::read::read::read::read:

When I first came home from the hosp. and was in bed most of the day ds decided it was time to read me bedtime stories. He brought a big box of Dr. Suess books to my bed and told me his version of the stories.

Both my kids have always enjoyed books. We visit the library often. We also pretty near have our own library in the toy room.

We pretty much have our own library, too. My sil told my sister they don't need any more books for their dd. She's barely one and they have a handful of books..... I on the other hand love getting books as gifts and love to give our favorites as gifts. Even with all of the books we have we somehow get sick of what we have and enjoy getting "new" ones from the library. Maybe as her dd gets older she'll change her mind - hope so!

We have a huge library, but I really think it depends on the child. I read to both when they were little, but dd hated it, she would much rather act out the stories. DS loved to be read to.

We read every night before bedtime. Our oldest ds is learning to read, and I love watching him "muddle" his way through books on his own. He still loves to be read to, and is now into chapter books. It's fun! Even our newly turned 5 year old thinks its "cool" to get chapter books. Of course, my voice is hoarse each night after reading time:)

I read alot (magazines, books, newspapers, etc) and so does dh. I think it's very important for kids to enjoy reading, and to see the purposes that we read .... for work and for fun!!

Either my wife or I read to the girls each nite. We've noticed our older daughter likes reading to us and the younger one to her brother.
