we just recently started the kids on Centrum Jr. Vitamins, we were getting the prescribtion kind and the Ped. told me that the over the counter ones were just as good...I was just wondering at what age did you make the change, or are you still on the prescibed kind.....dd will be 4 in July, and ds 6 in Aug....

We have never had the prescribed kind. I used to give ds over the counter ones. (Dks are 4 and almost 2). My dr has never made vitamins a big deal and said if they eat well they should be fine. Now I am really curious as to what the rest of you do????

we give ds 'Flintstones'. dd took them until she was about 8. Dr. said she didn't need them anymore but to give them to ds for a couple more years. Never did use prescription ones.
Don't know why we dicided on Flintstones. dh and I both took them as kids, so just keeping with family tradition I guess. :)

We don't buy vitamins. If you eat anything resembling a normal diet, then most of a vitamin will just be excreted (don't you just love that word!) anyway. If one of my kids was a picky eater, then we might have him take a vitamin.

My boys are both kind of picky eaters, so just as "insurance" I give them both a vitamin in the a.m. Usually we use the Centrum Jr., or Sesame Street...doesn't really matter to them. I've never heard of kids receiving prescription vitamins...not very common around here.

I have never had a precription for vitamins either. I did do the vitamin drops when they were babies, but my pediatrician is a real big fan of them either.

I use the GNC brand of kid vitamins. No colors, dyes, additives, etc..... added. DS is allergic to colors and this is the only place I could find vitamins without colors.

Both my sons (5 and 8) take Flintstone vitamins with extra vitamin C in them. They are both fairly picky eaters and this just insures they get all the vitamins they need.

MM! No vitamines here either. Healthy diets. I did read something about asperteme in childrens diets being harmful. I've read the lables on the bottles for liquid meds and most have asperteme as a sweetener.

Thankfully both my boys can swallow tablets so we opt for non liquid meds. Nothing "diet" either. I'm allergic to nutrasweet. I read something about and cancer and artificial sweeteners too. It's been a few years now. Maybe the medical community has new finding on the subject now.

No prescription vitamins here either. Just gave mine Flintstones when they were smaller.

Arianna, I think that saccharin was taken off the list of carcenogins this past fall. Not that it really matters to me, if not saccharin then something else.

I kinda thought it was too expensive to go with the perscribtion kind anyway, and both my kids eat pretty well, we do vitamins cuz, I do vitamins...LOL...

No perscription vitamins here either. When DD was 3 1/2 she wasn't gaining weight so the doctor had bloodwork done up on her. I think she thought I was starving my DD! When it came back she looked at it and said she was in great health and looked like she was getting a balanced diet. They just recommended a higher fat content to counteract her very high energy level. No suggestion of vitamins at all. When I asked they said it wasn't necessary and they prefered we ate a balanced diet since it is possible to get to much of some vitamins in the system. We haphazardly let them have the Safeway select brand. Not every day just when we remember. DH and I take our vitamins in sprees.

BTW - ironically DD (5 1/2) has gained weight in the last 2 yrs. Previously she was skinny for her taller than average height. Now she is below average height and fatter than average! DS has stayed in exactly the same percentiles since he was 1. (just over 90th for height and at 75th for weight)

I use Shacklee or Arbon vitamins.
Sam (2) uses Shacklee children's chewables and a calcium supplement from the health food store.
I like shacklee's cuz its just freeze dried food...
Sammy is allergic to milk so he needs the extra calcium.
