I don't know all of the details as of yet... just bits and pieces and so far all hear say... but just about noon or so a custodian or somebody found a suspicious looking backpack (or package) up on the roof of the school building. The bomb squad was called and they evidently made the decision that the school should be evacuated immediately. The kids didn't get to go back to their lockers or anything but were rushed right out and away from the school. Well... so far as I've heard it WAS a bomb!! I haven't got a clue what KIND of a bomb it was... how much damage it would/could have done or anything else... just that it was a bomb. I don't know if they checked anything beyond whatever the bomb was in but it was kind of scary walking back into the school this evening (I had a meeting there) not really knowing what all had gone on. Anyway... I'm waiting for the news to come on so I can hear more about it but... it's kind of scary thinking just how easy something like this can happen. Makes you nervous about even sending your child to school not knowing just how safe they are. Who knows, next a gun shooting or... who knows? Maybe it will end up that it was nothing and somebody is making a bigger deal about it than it really is/was but so far... everybody is quite panicked at what we've heard. It wouldn't be so bad if they'd tell us a little bit more... but so far it's been pretty quiet. Just thought I'd share what a wonderful day it's been around here.

Ugh... I'm SO mad. All they said on the new's last night was that the school had been evacuated and that the bomb squad had been called to the High School because of a suspicious looking box some roofers had found up on the roof. THAT'S IT!!! I talked with a few of the teachers last night and they all said that they had heard it was a bomb too... but that their probably trying to keep it quiet because they don't want any copycat's. Well... my feelings are that WE as parents have the RIGHT to know. I'm hoping to hear more about it today but let's just say... I'm VERY reluctant to send my dd to school today. SHE wants to go because she doesn't want to miss all of the "excitement" that went on yesterday but... ugh!!! I'm such of a worry-wart anyway so I'll probably sit here and worry all day. Gotta wonder just what kind of a person would do something like this. Anyway, keep your fingers crossed that nothing else happens today... I know I will be.
Diane...
YIKES!!!!
Have you called the school for more info? I think it would be hard to send your dd to school today to. Let us know what you find out.

I hope you find some answers soon. I think that you as a parent have a right to know. That is a pretty scary event, and I think that the truth would help ease everyone's minds. I mean if they said what it was and what they are doing about it. Let us know what you find out.

:nervous: Yikes Diane!! :nervous:
Any new info this morning? I missed the news last night. I can't believe they haven't given out more info so that all involved will feel more safe before going back there. Keep us posted!!!
Diane, This has got to be a parent's worst nightmare. Trying to make good decisions when you don't have the necessary information is too hard. Hang in there, and do what feels right to you.

How terrifying!!!
Glad to hear everyone is ok. It's good to know they had emergency evacuation procedures mapped out in case of such scenerio.
Let us know if you hear any more details.

How scary!!
Hope it wasn't a bomb after all. If it was I hope they find out where it came from and take some action.
I'll keep you all in my prayers.
