2 onions sliced
1/2 green pepper, thinly sliced
4 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 cup butter
2 Tablespoons flour
1 can (1 pound) tomatoes
1 can (1 pound) okra, drained or fresh okra
1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste
3 beef bouillion cubes
4 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
5 Tablespoons chili powder
pinch dried basil
1 bay leaf
1-1/2 teaspoons pepper
3 cups water
1-1/2 pound deveined shelled raw shrimp
3 cups hot cooked rice, (1 cup UN cooked)
1/4 cup minced parsley


Big Helping Hot Sauce
In a large kettle, saut'e onion, green pepper & garlicin butter. Blend in flour, cook over Low heat, stirring constantly, until mixture is bubbly & vegetables are tender. Remove from heat add remaining ingerdients except shrimp, rice & parsley. Simmer 45 minutes. Just before serving, add shrimp, simmer covered 5 minutes, until shrimp are pink & tender. Toss together rice & parsley. Serve into soup plates over portion of rice & parsley.

Or heap rice in center of individual bowls of gumbo.
