View Full Version : How do you feel about Daylight Savings Time?

Just curious. Indiana is one of the few states that doesn't do it, I think Arizona is the only other state.
Frankly I'd like to do it just because everybody else does. We are on Central or Eastern time, just depending on the time of year. I don't care one way or another, but when in Rome...
But, do you think it has some advantages? I think Angie R. just thought it was one more thing to do (setting back clocks) and that it didn't really add much.
Your thoughts?
I didn't put this on the debate board as I don't think this will be a touchy subject! :D
I LOVE having it light longer, especially in the summer. It makes for such nice relaxing evenings.
I like it too. It makes for a very nice evening. It already gets lighter first thing in the morning, so springing forward doesn't effect the morning, just gives you a leisurely evening.

Help me understand this, it gets darker sooner because you spring forward right?
No, Angie..it gets darker later because the clock says it's 9:00 rather than 8:00 when you spring forward.

Ok, I get it. So it gets dark about 10pm then?

I like it too. I enjoy being outside in the evenings and appreciate it staying lighter later. I can get a lot of yard work done and still enjoy some leisurely time to myself. :)
Diane...

I really enjoy it, too...once dks little bodies adjust to it! :)
Well, I for one think it is stupid to keep changing your clocks. Enjoy the daylight while you have it and quit screwing around with time clocks and body clocks.
OK, I'm not in a good mood today!

I guess I never really thought about in until I moved to Alaska and they actually have day light savings time here. Seems strange to me to change your clock when you have so much light in the spring/summer anyway (in Alaska)! Today the sunrise was at 5:42 a.m. and the sunset is at 10:12 p.m. I don't think that 1 hour really makes a difference! LOL Right now we are gaining about 5 1/2 minutes of daylight every day!

Wow Jen! That is just amazing! I bet it is hard to get the kids to go to bed when it is soooo light out.

I really haven't thought about it much. I knew that IN was not one to switch, but I just found that out. I guess that I do enjoy it though because I really like my sunshine.

I lived in AZ were they didn't change. It didn't make much of a difference really but then in AZ you like to do the hard work early in the morning before things heat up. Now (in WA) the extra light is nice at the end of the day. The kids don't finish their ball games until 7:30 - 8:00. Without the change it would be a problem since not all the fields have lights.
About 2 months or so ago there was talk of having a second daylight savings time in May. It sounded like it was discussed for a week or so and then dropped. The reasoning was that the extra daylight would mean less lights used at night. That would equate to a 2% energy savings.

You know, changing your clock doesn't really affect the amount of sunshine you get. You just have to enjoy it at a "different" time.
Angie, thanks for the cheer up.

Yeah but I like to enjoy it later in the evening. This is the time when dh and I can set on the balcony and talk. I guess I didn't quite phrase that right huh? LOL!!
Yeah, but we all knew what you meant. Even me with my poor attitude.
I like having more light after school, and more time....or so it seems.....I also like gettin up early when its darker............
