Stangely enough, our toaster fried and our top element in our toaster oven also fried this week, so I am wondering if we need to replace both or just go with a toaster oven. What do you think? What do you use?

I've never had a toaster oven before so I haven't had any experience with one. I do have a toaster though and use it all the time. I'm not sure but, with a toaster oven... if you're making toast wouldn't you have to sit and wait/watch for it to get done, wouldn't you? I like the fact that when my toast is done in my toaster it pops up and I don't have to worry about it getting burnt. :) Bummer about both of them breaking at the same time!!! Ugh!!!

I've had both and I prefer my plain old toaster better. A toaster is smaller and easily put away. I felt like the toaster oven was just an extra appliance I really didn't need because what I can't put in the toaster goes into the oven.
Diane P - A toaster oven also "turns off" when the time set is over.
I have both, use the toaster more, but do enjoy the toaster oven for open faced grilled cheese and such...so I guess I would say the toaster in more usefull in MY life....hope you can find both at Walmart or someplace for a decent price,, then maybe you could get both...

I only have a toaster oven, but I really haven't missed the toaster at all. I guess if you don't have one you can't miss it. LOL!!!

I only have a toaster - never had a toaster oven. I think one would be nice though for open faced sandwiches like Renee mentioned. :)

I'd have to say it was a mixed bag.
Toaster oven advantages
*you can heat you sandwitches instead of fry them
*It's great for bagels and cream cheese and mini pizza's
*It's turns off at a set time (at least mine does)
*It's great to have if your regular oven breaks down
Pop up toaster advantages
*Kids can use it
*Takes up less space
But all and all I'd say I you can only have one get the toaster oven if you have room on the counter for it.

I only have a toaster oven now and don't miss the plain toaster at all. On mine you can set it to toast and walk away just like in a toaster. I haven't seen one yet that you couldn't. You just set the darkness level and push a button just like a toaster. Mine stays set at the same darkness level all the time. My 5 and 9 year old can make toast and poptarts in the toaster oven easily. I have a microwave cart and the toaster oven is on top of the microwave. You can get ones that attach to the underside of a cabinet like a can opener or paper towel holder. I also use mine to make shrinky dink items. On occasion I've used it to heat something up when the oven is full. Especially for larger get togethers. Just be carefull with marshmallows on top of yams! I've already set them ablaze but then I've done that in the regular oven as well! I'll probably try to step up my use of it for items like garlic bread. I was doing that in the oven but the toaster oven is waaaay cheaper. Have to cut down on that energy usage!

I have used a toaster oven for years. I don't think there is any reason to have both a toaster and a toaster over. Some times I think about getting a toaster (because they have such funky ones out now), however I love the convenience of the toaster oven....when I am warming up dinner for the kids, baking something small or broiling something small, I don't have to turn on the big oven. I also find it is faster sometimes because it takes less time to warm up.

We have both. I did't think I would get much use out of the toaster oven but use it all the time to make sandwiches, mini pizzas, etc. We use the toaster to make our toast for breakfast, poptarts, etc. I find the toaster over makes jsut plain toast dry.

Hi Kathy. If I had my choice, I'd get a toaster oven. We used to have one and it broke (my mom then bought us a new toaster instead) and I really miss having the toaster oven. I found it great for baking small things - especially on hot days (not having to heat up a big oven). Very convenient for the kids too...mini pizzas, toast, etc.

I suppose this is a matter of personal preference, but I had a toaster oven only for years and only used it to make toast (and you could only fit two two slices at a time). So I recently went with a dual control 4-slice wide slotted toaster and love it.

I find it more useful for the same reasons as the other toaster oveners.
Toaster Oven all the way. Maybe goodwill would have a similar toaster oven and it could be bought for parts for the one you already have.

Well my dilemma was solved this morning when dh and the dks gave me a lovely new super duper toaster oven for mother's day. Dh thought he was going to get clobbered for giving me an appliance, lol, but he said the girls kept insisting it was the perfect gift! Just what I needed, lol!
Thanks for all the feedback.
